Bio / Background
Maren just released her second album, Ready For You Now. The new album contains twelve original songs with lots of energy, insight and honesty; the things that characterize Maren’s music generally. A good acoustic sound with strong guitar.
Maren was born and raised in Seattle, Washington. She spent most of her summers in Montana with extended family. She attended The Evergreen State College in Olympia, Washington where she studied liberal arts. She began to lose her eyesight shortly after graduating from college and has been legally blind ever since. Losing her eyesight caused her to reevaluate her life, and like any reasonable person would do in such circumstances, she decided to attend law school. Having not suffered enough getting her J. D., she sought out further schooling and attended Harvard Law School earning an LL. M. degree(for lay folks that’s the next law degree after a Juris Doctor and highly unnecessary).
↓ more ↓Finding the law tedious and corrupt, Maren became depressed and again was forced to reevaluate her life. Again, being the reasonable person that she is, she decided to quit law and play music.
Maren began playing the guitar at the age of ten. She is a self taught player, spending numerous hours listening to records and playing along. In high school, she attended a small public alternative school in Seattle’s Central District. There she had the opportunity to play with friends that were much more skilled than she and learned quickly.
Maren wrote her first song within the first year of picking up the guitar; an anti-war ballad written in response to her uncle being sent to Vietnam. She has been writing songs ever since. Her first disc “Resilient Child” contains eleven songs written during her second “life reevaluation” period. She wrote the title track for her sister. The album is about hope and despair, loss and strength, and faith and joy.
Maren’s second CD, “Ready For You Now,” has a much more lively sound but still contains Maren’s gift with lyrics and melody that take you in and hold you in the space she creates with her songs. The disc is fun, meaningful, inspiring, intelligent, and hopeful, with a little social commentary thrown in for good measure.
Maren currently lives in Montana with her two fabulous dogs and one overly dramatic cat.
