Progressive Christian Pop Rock - this project draws from elements of rock, electronica, hip-hop, AC, and even jazz. For a heavier sound, check out Marc's newest CD "Backstage Pass."
Bio / Background
No one can exactly label the music of Marc Andre. Some have called it alternative rock, others like to think of it as emo (By Now), electro-rock (Pull Through), or progressive...some tunes such as “Making of a Rock Star” or “Ladder” even border on punk/power pop. Marc's philosophy is to take a thought/emotion and write a song which fits the mood of that feeling. Hence...a very diverse sound with elements of heavy guitars, piano, electronics, and thick harmonies. Marc breaks the mold in a world of indie bands screaming for attention through cookie cutter chord progressions, arrangements, and catch phrase lyrics.
Marc’s style has grown and evolved tremendously over the years. Throughout high school and college, he produced several hip-hop albums and as time went on, "rhymes" soon became melodies, drum machines and loops were replaced with heavier live instrumentation and eventually, a new more rock rooted sound emerged.
↓ more ↓His most recent CD, "Backstage Pass," was co-produced by Columbus native Dave Bechtel (Ascend Productions) and was released in November of 2004. Some of Marc's musical influences include Pink Floyd, Smashing Pumpkins, The Flaming Lips, U2, and Evanescence. A number of Nashville studio players comprise the band of "Backstage Pass," including Mark Baldwin (guitar), Jerry McPherson (guitar), Craig Nelson (bass), Steve Brewster (drums), and the Nashville String Machine. Much of “Backstage Pass” was recorded at Dark Horse Recording in Nashville, TN and was engineered by Nashville-based veteran Doug Sarett.
Marc is currently writing new music for his next project and is traveling with his 5-piece band. Recent shows have included King College (Bristol, TN), Bluffton University (OH), and Huntington University (IN). Marc also works as an audio & music producer/sound designer in Columbus, OH. His small business, 10x12 Productions, has produced works for a number of businesses including Crown Financial Ministries (GA), Layson's Restorations (WA), and Draw Productions (OH). He also recently received three Telly awards for his sound design work on Taylor's Attic, a nationally syndicated children's tv show (produced by the Guardian Television Network). Marc attended Word of Life Bible Institute (NY 1995) and Liberty Univiersity (Lynchburg, VA 1995-1998) and earned a bachelor's degree in graphic-media production.
“Marc Andre and his band are energetic and passionate about their music and subject matter. Memorial Chapel at King College exploded with energy and gospel vision during their concert on campus last fall. Students, and even a few faculty, were thrilled with the bands musical skills and their ability to communicate the good news in fresh and provocative terms.”
Errol G Rohr Chaplain, King College, Bristol, TN
"For all you purists who believe that a musician should stick to a single genre, I have just two words, Marc Andre. With his sophomore project, "Backstage Pass," Andre effectively showcases his proficiency in emo, hip hop, and indie-fied prog rock. Deep, emotional songs like "Hurricane" employ rich swelling strings, while more upbeat tunes such as "Making of a Rock Star," draws on Andre's hip hop roots. Whether you feel like laughing or crying, mourning or dancing, chances are there's a song on "Backstage Pass" to fit your mood."
