REVIEWS
THE BRAG - DEC 04
*CD OF THE WEEK*
4.5/5 stars
"Sitting somewhere between Bjork and Lou Rhodes, Majella O'Shea delivers a unique album. The album features production standing somewhere between the electronic and acoustic: it's dark and mysterious yet alluring and gentle. Her voice is divine as she draws you in with whispers and lyrics that paint pictures that tangents can only dream of.
↓ more ↓It's an album that will make you laugh and maybe cry- it's personal and honest while holding itself high in the talent stakes. Its strength comes from a sense of fragility that rides along with an underlying power. Tracks like "The man with the child in his eyes", a cover of Kate Bush, will put Majella on the map as one of the vocal finds of 2004, as she does more than justice to the original." SYDNEY MORNING HERALD - MARCH 05
3/4 stars
Sydneysider O'Shea's spellbinding voice has a lucidity that prickles the skin. It's suitably underscored on this debut by her own airy trip-hop programming and delicate piano figures. Majella doesn't just sing the obvious pop-like melodies, she explores their outskirts. She oscilates between harmonic towers with perfect pitch and a vocal style reminiscent of the Cranberries' Dolores O'Riordan Burton. The ideas for the 12 tracks are similar, but "tangent's trail" is still more than merely a lovely and often innocently wistful listen" (Paris Pompor)
