Mad Dog Mcrea a professional touring band, have been working their magic around the globe since 1995. With their unique blend of raw energy and kaleidoscopic acoustic orchestration they have soared to incredible notoriety in the clubs and pubs of devon and cornwall and have also toured extensively in UK, Europe USA and Thailand. The band are based in Devon, England and they have released two independent albums, "drink stink & be merry 1995" and "away with the fairies 2002". Now in 2006 they have signed to Cough Records and released "Sophisticated Hat Manoeuvres". This high energy raw celtic folk rock band never cease to capture the complete attention of their toe tapping audiences.

With a sound mixed,mashed and finely honed through years of live gigs on these and far distant shores, the Devon five-piece have finally laid down their second album 'Sophisticated Hat Manoeuvres' , a title that hardly slips off the tongue. It is just as well, then, that gems aplenty lie within the album. Opening with the brooding 'Country Boy' that brings to mind the work of Jethro Tull and also exhibits, appropriately enough, a country influence with added measures of pop and indie rock immediacy plus a dash of eastern European fiddle work. From here on, they combine the aforementioned influences with the expected Celtic-flavored melodies, coming to fruition on the delightfully atmospheric 'Butterfly' on which the fiddle and flute produce a graceful interpretation of a traditional piece. They take a slight detour for the cod-reggae of 'The Dribble on my Pillow' whilst things move up a pace on their own 'Whiskey Moon' where the coolly assured vocals of Michael Mathieson come into their own. A- for the most part - original take on the roots-rock genre by a band ready to rock and kick out the reels while equally willing to explore wider and more diverse musical landscapes.
