Experimental electronic Guitar loops and soundscapes; ambiental, and one man virtual orchestration
Bio / Background
Luis Angulo´s diverse musical influences are clearly portrayed through his spontaneous loop improvisations.Using guitar synths, effect proccessors and real time looping devices he is able to paint a broad musical canvas taking you at times to an unexpected world musical journey.
Luis Angulo´s first release "Primeros Ciclos" is a combination of virtual sonic fantasies and imaginations all done with a proccesed guitar.Following the opening drone "Comienzo" you are suddently taken to a strange fusion of an intense squacky and high pitched celtic like reed flute solo backed by a ritualistic voodoo like 6/8 west african groove. Then the cool snake" Nataraja dance" is a hypnotic backward guitar loop backed by an indian tabla pattern and a drum and bass groove, which like its title suggests a dancing boa snake somewhere in the far east.
↓ more ↓There are also quiet moments like the dreamy live track "Wasserfall" (or waterfall) with a guitar just laying random canon notes accompanied with a dreamy and eternal melody.
But the dark morbid and sinister "Cajita de musica" (little music box) is an evolving chilling and cynical piece recorded live in concert. The beginning sounds like a broken old piano created with a synth guitar patch s and an surprising imitation of an angry miles davis guitar trumpet improvisation.Listening to pieces like this it is hard to tell that there is only one person with one guitar creating such a wall of sound.
For an audience a Live Looping concert can be an increadibly inspiring experience. You are not presented with a "finished piece of music", as by the traditional concert form of playing back already composed music. At a Live Looping show you are able to follow in detail how each musician is improvising and composing spontaneously and adding his parts to the music - note for note, loop for loop. It's like an instantly evolving ritual of magic that never repeats itself...
