A powerful, sensual, edgy Singer/Songwriter rooted in ethereal acoustic and raw rock sounds. One of the most soulful voices of our time.
Bio / Background
Danielle Lubené is a singer / songwriter whose vocals, lyrics and music are a powerful blend of edge and sensuality. When experiencing Danielle's live performance for the first time, few are prepared for the intensity and strength with which this petite woman delivers her unique, provocative sound.
Slink, Danielle Lubené's long-awaited, full-length follow-up to ESP and the Sandman, was released in June 2003. Two years in the making, Slink was recorded between July 2002 and January 2003 by Dan McKinney at Dan's House Studio in Center Valley, PA. It features the rhythm team of Ken Bussiere and Dave Ferrara (both known for their work with The Creatures, The Original Sins and Herman's Hermits), with guest guitar spots by John Terlesky (The Creatures, The Original Sins, Brother JT, et al) and Doug Ashby (Hurry Down Sunshine, The Sue Foley Band, Tavern Tan). Slink highlights Ms. Lubené's diversity with a little something for everyone.
↓ more ↓From the ethereal "One Song", the catchy, pop-flavored "Unwound", to the raw and edgy "Of Purest White", Lubené proves it is possible to avoid fitting into a 'neat little box', while still putting together a cohesive, enticing body of work. In August of 2003, Danielle and Slink were featured on the long-running Virgin Vinyl radio show on WMUH in Allentown. In October of 2003, Danielle and the new CD were nominated for 8 Lehigh Valley Music Awards.
Ms. Lubené, who hails from Allentown, Pennsylvania, has been penning lyrics and melodies since she was a very young child. Watching the Monkees on television as a kid fostered her desire to be a musician - that combination of silly humor and cool music - what could be better? She was hooked. Music with a sense of fun was replaced in her teen years by music with a sense of urgency and individuality, leading her to discover her greatest influences: The Ramones, 999, Blondie, Patti Smith, X, Joe Jackson, Kate Bush and Laurie Anderson. Okay, she kind of dug KISS, too. In 1988, she was given a stripped and disassembled vintage Fender Telecaster. She immediately had the guitar rebuilt and learned to play it. Danielle utilized the next several years fine-tuning her song-writing craft and performance skills in the Lehigh Valley, including a turn in May 1992 as a featured performer at the Songwriters and Performers Expo 1992. Her continued performances span across Pennsylvania, New York and New Jersey, where she has developed a steady and growing following, and include stints in Nashville and Washington D.C.
Danielle's first release was the five-song ESP and the Sandman in the winter of 1994. This recording also features Ken Bussiere and Dave Ferrara, as well as violinist Mark Golin, a founding member of Zen for Primates and nationally known improvisational saxophonist Gary Hassay. ESP and the Sandman received heavy rotation on Public Radio Station WDIY in the Lehigh Valley, as well as support from College Radio and Public Radio Station WXPN in Philadelphia.
Danielle was featured, along with Catie Curtis and Amy Ford , on the nationally award-winning program Gender Specific on WDIY in a show entitled "Women in Music". In August 1996, she joined the Scott Bradoka Band as a guest vocalist for their performance at Musikfest. She has appeared four times on A Lehigh Valley Christmas , a compilation released yearly by Lehigh Valley label Bummer Tent Records. She also worked as a backing vocalist for the Lehigh Valley pop group The Villas.
While Danielle works to balance all aspects of her career, the songs continue to be and will remain the heart and soul of her expression and experience. Of her style, it has been said, "Like a folkie, she swoons about emotions such as joy, love and hope. Like a punker, she wails about anger and emptiness." Danielle is the artist who pokes at the places in people that make them touch their own deep emotion and experience. In essence, she compels us to honor our own anger, sadness, love and hope.
In addition to her musical career, Danielle Lubené is also a published, award-winning photographer.
