Four great musicians come together to form a new California sound with harmonies and guitars reminiscent of CSN&Y and The Eagles.
Bio / Background
Hey, it's me, Jude. Everybody here at CDBaby has been so cool over the years that I wanted to make this introduction personally. Yes, this is the super-group/side-project I've been talking about, except it's much more than a "side-project" now. We're actually an empire bent on meeting the world, won't you join us?
Seriously, we're being played and sold in Starbucks across North America. One of our songs, Calling All Friends, is the theme for ABC's What About Brian. We've been on Carson Daly and you'll be able to see us on more national tv before long. We're being played on the radio more every day, we're going on tour throughout April....and we're playing Carnegie Hall.
Sounds ridiculous, right? The thing is, we got together in a very organic, but also very Hollywood way, meeting and singing for the first time at a home up in the Canyon. It sounded so good and felt so easy that we decided we had to record this. So we did. Harmonies, songwriting, and acoustic guitars.
↓ more ↓Now people tell us that they didn't even realize they missed this kind of music until they heard us (I know that sounds corny, but we hear it all the time).
Oh, Look: reviews from Itunes...
"WHO ARE THESE GUYS? - Never heard of this band, but their sound blows me away. I would recommend this to anyone. Are reminiscent of CSN&Y mixed with Eagles. Love this album."
Who are we? Well, Dave Gibbs is a great songwriter as well as one of the finest harmmony singers out there. He founded, fronted, and then rocked with the Gigilo Aunts, who became critical darlings with their albums Flippin’ Out and Minor Chords and Major Themes. He works in tv, film, and now even on Broadway... I met him at my house and we talked about doing a group project, something we'd both been thinking about.
Dave introduced me to Chris Seefried, a truly great musician who founded and fronted both God's Child and Joe 90. Chris has one of those voices you don't forget once you've heard it. He had also been wanting to do a super-group, and he and I had heard of each other from eople who knew we were chasing the same idea. He was also the first songwriter I ever felt realy comfortable collaborating with, which became a big deal for us, as we went on a songwriting tear that became the bulk of the album. At one point we were so into our country, wannabe-Eagles writing team that we tried to convince the other guys to wear matching Nudie suits and Bolo ties...
I'm pretty sure it was Jeff who put the fast kibosh on that. Jeff Russo was a founder, singer, and lead guitarist in Tonic. You might have heard of them, as they sold, like, oh, a TRILLION albums. Jeff was working on his own solo stuff when we all go together up at his house. He told us he didn't want to be a lead guitar player for a while....but he's so damn good at it and so fun to watch that we've talked him into playing most of the leads even while he's singing and writing. He's just that good.
Then there's me. I've been recording and performing as a solo artist for a decade now (MANY THANKS to CDBaby for the last few years1). I grew up singing in a cappella groups, and it ws bluegrass that drew me to the guitar, so the chance to sing and collaborate with musicians like Chris, Jeff, and Dave was something I'd been trying to make happen as a passion project for a long time.
Anyay, here we are - forgive the simplification - an indie/alternative guy, a rock/soul guy, a pop-rock guy, and a singer-songwriter. No one would have put the four of us together, but once we found each other things started to happen quickly. So here you are, in on the ground level! Please buy one and tell your friends about us before they come and tell you first - I promise you'll like it!
- Jude
