Bio / Background
LOU DiBELLO
Guitarist
Lou DiBello has just released his 2nd full length, instrumental album, entitled "The Axeman Cometh". This disc is a hard-rocking blend of straight ahead, uptempo rock, soaring ballads, groove/reggae, and Yngwie Malmsteen inspired neo-classical shredding. With this disc, Lou has captured the fiery playing and melodic compositional approach that he has become known for by guitar fans across Illinois and beyond.
Lou DiBello has been a professional guitarist and instructor for over 20 years. He has played nearly 2000 gigs, and taught over 15,000 private lessons. Lou is also the owner and creator of Guitarlessononline.com, started in 2001. GuitarlessonOnline was one of the first online lesson websites to feature both streaming video lessons and Flash multi-media lessons. To date, nearly 5000 people have signed up and learned from the free lessons available, and many have subscribed to the Premium section or ordered the lessons on CD-ROM.
↓ more ↓From 1994 to present, Lou has been the guitarist for the band ESP, of which Lou is the only founding member to play every ESP show. The band played across downstate Illinois and into Indiana, and at it's busiest played over 100 shows a year for many years. The band released a self-titled EP in 2000, selling hundreds of CD's at shows and garnering a few good regional reviews in the process.
In 2000, Lou recorded several pieces for pro wrestling events.
From 1995-1999, Lou fronted his own power trio as guitarist and vocalist for Electric Sky, very much inspired by Jimi Hendrix. The band won a Z-Rock battle of the bands, and opened shows for such acts as Blue Oyster Cult, Quiet Riot, .38 Special, LA Guns, and more.
From 1998-1999, Lou was lead guitarist in the house band at Blues Creation nightclub in Urbana, IL. This was a straight Chicago-style blues band, backing up many regional and national touring artists, as well as providing live music 2-4 nights a week.
In 1993, Lou released his first all instrumental effort, Pile-Up. Coming at the height of the Nirvana/grunge/alternative era, this album still received rave reviews from local and national independent guitar enthusiasts. Lou was featured in the Hometown Heroes column in Guitar World magazine, spotlighting unsigned talent.
From 1989-1992, Lou was lead guitarist for Blanche Talley, Illinois/Indiana band that released 6 song EP. The band also opened for The Black Crowes, Foghat, Molly Hatchet, Blackfoot, Shotgun Messiah, and many others.
In 1989, Lou graduated with honors from Musicians Institute in Hollywood, CA.
Lou's first gig with a rock band was at age 17. He also studied piano and saxophone as a youth, beginning guitar at age 15.
