LOOMER
“Everybody knows the sin is mine and what my wage is…”
Dirt Angel, Songs of the Wild West Island
Born out of the ashes of Toronto alt country stalwarts The Saddletramps, and built around the idiosyncratic song writing skills of Scott Loomer, Loomer released their internationally acclaimed debut album Love is a Dull Instrument in the summer of 2004.
Several “Best of 2004” lists later, and upon completing a successful tour of the UK in the summer of 2005, Loomer got down to the task of recording their second album, the highly anticipated Songs of the Wild West Island, 12 songs of hope, despair, resurrection, disaster and a two-headed calf, including the haunting new duet Only Lovers featuring Sarah Harmer. That’s the Loomer story so far but there’s much more to come. "We play because we love making music. It's not like we want our own action figures or anything.
↓ more ↓Although, that would be nice"—Scott Loomer
Their outstanding sophomore effort that has the citics gushing (and we can't blame them one bit)!
"Loomer`s sophomore release expands on their exceptional debut. Scott Loomer`s songwriting and the band`s rich, cinematic sound, compliments of Andrew Lindsay, Brian Duguay, Mike Taylor, Iain Thomson, and John DeHaas, move them into the upper-tier alongside stalwarts Ryan Adams, Wilco, and The Jayhawks. From the opening notes of Bang The Nails to the closing of Endless Holiday, Loomer stakes their claim as one of the best bands working in the loosely-defined Americana genre." - Jeff Weiss, Miles of Music
"Their obvious cohorts are the Jayhawks, but Scott Loomer’s songs exhibit more varied influences: the compact pop of Counting Crows ('Anastasia'); the gloomy ambiguity of Michael Stipe ('Bang the Nails'); the toughness ('Dirt Angel') and tenderness ('Only Lovers') of "Sticky Fingers"-era Stones!" - Twangville.com
"An alt-country gem!" - Bob Harris/BBC, Maverick Magazine
"A band on the eve of an enormous breakthrough. Masterfully sophisticated melodies!" - Real Roots Cafe
"What sets them apart from the usual alt-country mold is that they revel in, and even celebrate, the non-country contradictions in their music...like late era Velvet Underground taking a walk with Gram Parsons...signs of grace and greatness unheard since late-period Uncle Tupelo!" - Scene Magazine
"Flowers into a world-weary, folk-inspired country rock album that works on pretty much all levels. Superficially, the songs are winners with the right amount of musical edge to add the salt and pepper. Scratch beneath the surface and the lyrics are insightful, sometimes funny, sometimes poignant, and always interesting. Like they say, if a thing’s worth doing, it’s worth doing well, and Loomer are clearly adhering to that maxim!" - 9 out of 10, Americana-UK.com
