They have been described as "progressive rock," "Yes meets Jesus Christ Superstar meets Genesis," and as "music for musicians."
Bio / Background
Little Atlas is a Miami-based original rock band. Our style is difficult to categorize using current bands as a point of reference; however, the band has been compared to progressive rockers Yes, Kansas, and King Crimson. Little Atlas is a work in progress...an ever changing sound reflecting the mood and will of its creators. Their music has been described as "Music for Musicians" (Miami Herald, 1999) and as "Esoteric, yet familiar, complex yet catchy, a thoroughly unique sound and approach to songcrafting" (Florida Jam Magazine, 2001).
Band Members
Steve Katsikas - Vocals, Keyboards, Acoustic Guitar
Ricardo Bigai - Bass, Keyboards
Roy Strattman - Guitars
Joanna Katsikas - Backing Vocals
Diego Pocovi - Drums and percussion
Album reviews:
...An original album from a very talented band that clearly has put their heart and soul into the songs. Little Atlas shows once again that progressive rock can still be really progressive and inventive. A fresh wind through progland.
↓ more ↓As Little Atlas is described by the band themselves as 'a work in progress', I am looking for their next release with a keen interest. Hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

...All of the songs instantly become memorable and hard to get out of your head (a good thing!). There is not a dud on Surface Serene. Both the title track and "Can I Find It" are soon becoming part of my favorite new songs...

....Little Atlas are extremely talented and full of surprises. I like the fact that many of these songs can change so much, even though most are only in the four to five minute range. I'd love to see the band tackle a serious epic on the next CD or perhaps even feature backing vocalist Joanna Katsikas more prominently. Also, printed lyrics would be appreciated. They are only on the "Enhanced CD" feature which doesn't help much if you're not listening at a PC! However, these are minor reservations as the band exhibits much potential. I am most definitely looking forward to the next CD. Recommended!

Let me start by saying that Surface Serene is a very good Progressive Rock album. Their music is not overly complex even though in all the songs you get interesting time changes, nice instruments and vocal interaction and often great soloing (synth and/or guitar). In fact most of the songs start in a straightforward hard rock format but always (and sometimes quickly) evolve in progressive territories....

...Despite Surface Serene's anachronistic leanings, it's too well done to dismiss. The songs are nicely crafted and performed, the sounds tweaked to perfection, and the lyrics true to the voice of an actively peaceful, metaphysical movement...

...Their style -- at once eclectic, passionate, intellectual, introspective, & explosive -- emerges from intensively strong songwriting born from within the multimatrixed traditions of modern progressive rock. ...
Little Atlas is an extraordinary USA young band that certainly will attract a lot of attention, it is true that there are many reasons in this attention, and one of them is the musical style developed by the musicians, an extraordinary wide range of musical experimentation...
