Bio / Background
Lindsey Yung has steadily become a prominent singer/songwriter in the San Diego music scene. She has been garnering applause from fans and praise from critics alike with her new album Fusion. Recently, Lindsey was featured in several local publications in the past year such as 944 Magazine, the San Diego Reader, the San Diego Union Tribune, San Diego Music Matters, and the San Diego Troubadour; as well as national publications like the music magazine Inside Connection and TheCelebrityCafe.com. She has shared the stage with local legends like Gregory Page and Tristan Prettyman, notable Southern California talent like Curtis Peoples and Ernie Halter, and her music continues to receive airplay from both local and national internet radio stations. Most recently Lindsey won a 2006 Los Angeles Music Award for the category: Acoustic Female Singer/Songwriter of the Year.
Lindsey has been something of a musical prodigy.
↓ more ↓She began taking vocal lessons at age 4, performing at age 5; guitar and piano lessons quickly followed, and she was composing her own music by the time she was 12. The powerful appeal of Lindseys music is two-fold: first her melodies are haunting and emotionally captivating, and second her lyrics are insightful and poetically rich. Thus, it comes as no surprise when fans learn that in 2003 she graduated from San Diego State University with not one, but two degrees; one in Philosophy and the other in Religious Studies. Her undergraduate degrees were not the conclusion of Lindseys academic journey. She currently attends the University of San Diego working toward a Master of Science Degree in Nursing. Having just completed her first year of studies, she is now what she likes to call, "a registered nurse by day and a rock star by night." However important education has been and continues to be for her, Lindsey clearly considers music to be her greatest passion, her first love, and thus her greatest priority. Music has been and remains the central focus of her life. When 944 Magazine asked her about balancing school and music she replied, "(Education) leads to new experiences, new thoughts and new knowledge, which seep into my music... My education lends itself to my music."
Lindsey is currently writing for a new album, which she anticipates will be released sometime mid 2007. Her latest album is a collaborative effort with the production team Brainfire Technology, and while she still plans to compose with them for her upcoming album, the bulk of her new music is her solo effort, written alone on the piano. While Lindsey is slowly beginning to show more of herself as an instrumentalist, clearly what drives her music is her unique and undeniable vocal gift. She considers herself first and foremost a vocalist and it is her voice that continues to set her apart from the rest. It is a rare and definite pleasure to find a singer with such range, power, and vocal clarity; even a greater pleasure to hear it all delivered with such genuine feeling. As Craig Yerkes of the San Diego Troubadour stated, "Lindsey Yung's voice is a beautifully refined and powerful instrument that makes the melodies, lyrics and rhythms crackle with life and emotion," and while her vocals drive her music, it is equally her words that give to her music a presence and a passion that allows her to reach her audience on a deeper level. Anyone who has had the opportunity to see Lindsey live or listen to her album Fusion will be left not only with a sense of inspiration and connection to her music, but will be looking forward to hear what new music this very talented and creative performer will soon produce.
