Melodic Rock
Bio / Background
"White Flowers" is a collection of songs crafted around mood, subtle shifts
in rhythmic patterns, layers of texture and melodies that insinuate and
weave their spell about the listener as opposed to cracking them over the
cranium. This is music for the Peter Gabriel, Sting audience, the Chris Issak
devotee, the Kate Bush acolyte and those familiar with the jazz nuances of
Steely Dan, the latter especially on "Hogtied" where Johansen's voice is a
less world weary Donald Fagen. The title track leads the way into the album, and is part Steely Dan, part Kip Winger, with a touch of Bobby Kimball in Johansen's delivery. "Til daylight" is veined with the tight intimacy every critic pretends David Gray demonstrates, Johansen's superb vocal supported by keyboard figures straight out of the Stones songbook next to "Fool to Cry", while the percussive edge of "The Devil wears white" would marry well with the cinematography of Robert Rodriguez.
↓ more ↓"White Flowers" is a superb album with a host of treasures held within, to
be explored and savoured and returned to again and again.
85/100 Andrew Paul
Leif Johansen has studied studio music and jazz at both The University of North Texas State and The University of Miami where his principal instrument was Upright Bass and Electric Bass.
Upon completion of his studies he started working with A-ha playing both Bass and programming/sequencing Keyboards. This caused him to relocate from America to England and opened the door for collaborations as both musician, producer and composer with many London based international artists. Leif quickly switched over to start playing both guitar and keyboards professionally along with engineering and mixing.
Leif was co-founder of 21 GUNS along with Scott Gorham (of Thin Lizzy fame), a member of Far Corporation (along with Simon Phillips and Bobby Kimbal), and Producer of the Phenomena records(Glenn Hughes, John Wetton,Brian May etc.) amongst other projects. Leif is currently recording his sophmore solo effort!!! Stay tuned!!!
