Jazz at it's coolest. A tasty smooth blend of standards combined with Latin and blues-flavored originals from singer/flutist Libbie Jo. "Excellent Flutist. Fantastic Singer." Paul Horn "The Lady Really Cooks." Haybert Houston, Jazznow.com
Bio / Background
"THE FLUTE & VOICE OF LIBBIE JO"
Known in the Los Angeles area as a front-line flutist, Libbie Jo is becoming recognized as a songstress with a most distinctive vocal ability. Growing up in a household where music was predominant (her mother was a dance teacher and her father, a pianist), Libbie Jo gravitated toward the marvelous standard material of the day, as well as developing a taste for jazz, heard via Chicago radio.
When her friend and producer Jane Getz heard Libbie Jo's singing voice, she immediately took her into the studio for a test recording, later commenting, "the tape loves Libbie Jo's voice." Development money was provided by a record company and the adventure began.
Over a period of several years the project (recorded at Local 47) evolved into a finished CD weaving together a blend of jazz standards such as "My Old Flame" and "S'Wonderful" with originals penned by Libbie Jo, Getz, Phil Ranelin and other L.A.
↓ more ↓musicians, including the upbeat "Toot Da Flute" to the wistful "Summer At Last" -- a last minute addition featured in the film "Made Up" that won the Independent Voice Award at the 2002 Santa Barbara Film Festival.
"The Flute & Voice of Libbie Jo" is already being recognized in the music world. Paul Horn comments, "Wonder flute! Fantastic vocals!" Derek Sivers of CDBaby.com says, "Her CD is excellent! Where is my tuxedo and martini? I can tell she'd be a great catch live." Vocalist Sue Raney states, "Beyond being a wonderful flutist, her singing enchants you." Her songs are lovely and interesting."
Libbie's resume is extensive, including musical performances with such notables as Paul Horn, Buddy Collette, and the San Francisco Ballet Orchestra. She has worked as a studio musician in L.A. and is also a strong presence on the L.A. club scene.
Her choice of Steve Cotter on guitar, Henry Franklin on bass, Paul Kreibich and Tom Sala on drums and percussion (in addition to Jane Getz on keyboards) to accompany her is superlative.
"The Flute & Voice of Libbie Jo" is distributed by North Country Distributors and is available online at CD Baby, at Tower or Virgin Records, your specialist jazz dealer.
