Bio / Background
The Levelheads are a Philadelphia-based band that was formed in mid 2003 by Brian Jacobs, Russell Gellman, James Smith, and Russell Starke.
Veterans of the local music scene, the members of The Levelheads have previously worked (and sometimes still do) with notable musicians such as Julia Brown, Matt Santry, Brian Donahue, Numinosity, and Human Rhythm. While the band began as a meeting of the minds for musicians who had spent the better part of the last five years as "hired guns" in various musical situations, things quickly evolved into what was to become a highly creative and collaborative full-time musical outlet for each of the band members.
"Ready Set Go" was recorded in the summer of 2004 in just three studio days at The Recovery Room in Willow Grove, PA.
↓ more ↓This straight-forward EP essentially captured, in the studio, what The Levelheads sound like "live" (minimal overdubs and re-takes appear on the recording); and was recorded as a promotional tool as well as a document for fans wanting copies of the music that they could take home with them from shows. More importantly, this recording captures the genesis of The Levelheads' sound and gives us a glimpse into what is in store for the band as they continue to refine and enhance their repertoire.
"Ready Set Go" features artwork from the "5th Levelhead", local artist Todd Marrone - who frequently performs with the band and creates improvised paintings on stage while they play. The EP is available as a strictly limited edition of 1,000 copies - so when they're gone, they're gone! Get yours today!
From www.thelevelheads.com:
Soon, The Levelheads will be the biggest band on the planet. Soon after, success will ruin them. Brian will get addicted to pain medication, Jim will not be able to stop huffing paint, and the Russells will stop pretending they're cool with the identity crisis caused by both having the same name (and both being from Long Island NY), and will fight to the death on stage in front of a horrified audience at Budokan. Todd will then assist the local police department by drawing a disturbing chalk outline, in his own special style, around the fallen Russell. Which one will it be? You'll have to wait for the Behind the Music special to find out. Until then, catch them live so you can say you knew them before success ate them alive.
