Adult Contemporary music. Laura sounds like a soulful jazz oriented Karen Carpenter. This album has rock, ballads, blues, bossa nova and gospel styles. with songs about relationships - good, bad and otherwise.
Bio / Background
This is a unique album. It is one in which every song counts. You will want to play this album from beginning to end all in one sitting.
The first thing you will notice is that there is an Overture and a Finale. The Overture sets the stage for the musical journey you are about to take. As you are introduced to the musical themes, you become aware that melody plays an important part in this experience. These songs recall our youth and our maturity in the ways we deal with the profound experiences of life.
The songs on this album could easily form the basis for a musical theater piece about the relationships we experience as we move on our journey through life. Relationships that make us smile, relationships that end because we are too young to appreciate the love that is being expressed by others. Relationships that end with a whimper and we almost feel that nothing has been lost.
↓ more ↓Relationships where people leave us and we cannot easily move on because their presence is in every place and every thing we see and touch. And they even explore those fearful moments when we realize that we cannot run fast enough from the emotional stalker whose very essence permeates our lives and turns our dreams into nightmares.
Yet this album is filled with many different musical styles. There are heart wrenching ballads, but there are also rock, folk, blues, gospel, bossa nova, jazz and even a children’s song that reminds us that being a child can be a cruel experience where we need a place to hide and be alone with our thoughts.
This album celebrates melody and lyrics at their finest. But in the end, it celebrates the experience of being alive and being connected to others and to life itself.
This album is all about the music. It is indeed an album you will never forget.

RadioIndy Review of “Somewhere In This Room” by Laura PursellRadioIndyReview wrote on May 09, 2008
“Somewhere In This Room” by Laura Pursell is an impressive musical journey. Mainly adult contemporary in style, this album ventures across genre boundaries and yields the potential to reach a wide audience. The CD features heart-felt vocals, masterful musicianship, and lyrics that covers the ups and downs of relationships. “Skywriting Neon Lights” steps into the limelight, revealing itself as extremely melodic and thereby memorable. Furthermore, its beautiful acoustic guitars and serene atmosphere is addictive. “When You Smile” emerges out of a special brew of jazz and Latin spices, producing a contagious groove. Moreover, the symphonic opening of the title-track, coupled with the majestic grand piano fuse to create a track that stands out. With top-notch production, “Somewhere In This Room” is a totally professional CD that is worthy of critical acclaim. Xavier P. and RadioIndy.com http://www.radioindy.com/bands/3764/
