Bio / Background
Creating sonic tension is no easy feat, but this is what koshari accomplishes on their alluring new release entitled, unless. Described by one reviewer as "a musical ice storm," koshari uses odd times, effects, dynamics and haunting lyrics to create music that is almost visual in nature. Upon every listen one may latch on to a different element as the parts seem to meld together - melodic female vocals intertwined with lush guitar and driving rhythms.
To koshari, music is a way to evoke emotion and spur thought. They are heartfelt about their art, no pretenses. They are close friends - they are co-conspirators.
On their current release, Unless, the band pushed for an intertwining of raw performance and quality sound. Unsubscribing to the popular use of overdubbing, koshari instead focused on the live feel of the music. This sophomore full-length is filled with songs that contain a whirlwind of emotion but sway heavily towards longing and discontent.
↓ more ↓They claim being a DC-based band can easily lend itself to unrest.
Koshari is known for their powerful and enveloping live performances. Their songs have been described as, "pin-wheeling imagery with a layered and languorous sound." They have played with a variety of different bands ranging from Sleepytime Gorilla Museum to Adam Franklin of Swervedriver.
To promote their current release, koshari is planning many local and regional shows, but they also remain in constant writing mode, continuing to hone their craft. They are planning another full-length release for summer 2007.
If you like My Bloody Valentine, A Perfect Circle, Autolux, Swervedriver, Death Cab for Cutie or The Decemberists, you will be taken by koshari.
