Bio / Background
The Kimberly Trip was born from a friendship between Jeffry Wynne Prince and Bractune that began in Junior High School. "I don't want to say we were two of the biggest geeks at our school; but everyone constantly reminded us that we absolutely were!" recalls Jeff. "I met Bractune a few weeks after school started, and we immediately bonded out of a 'nerds of a feather' sort of mentality. It was ironic- we would spend hours a day making our own animated Sci-Fi films with plastic Star Wars action figures, and we'd spend the rest of the time wondering why everyone in town thought we were huge geeks!"
Soon they discovered the power of rock and roll. Immediately they picked up instruments, took overpriced lessons, and started to dream of all the girls they'd attract. Their love of music got them through High School, and their songwriting techniques became more and more refined. "We played in all kinds of bands throughout that period;from Punk, to Art-Rock, to Pop," remembers Brac.
↓ more ↓"Our diversity helped us become better musicians, but we were seriously lacking in any type of focus. Luckily, that's around the time we started playing with John."
Bassist and Programmer extraordinaire, John Facundo, met his future band-mates when he hired Jeffry to mix a punk-techno album he was recording. At the time he had no clue he'd walk away with a career partner and 'musical soul-mate'. "We instantly became friends and started hanging out and jamming." Says John. "I went to see them live and was totally blown away. Jeff was the Perfect frontman, and Bractune was an incredible drummer! I thought I could really get into what they were doing, so when they approached me about joining, I was bouncing off the walls." The acquisition of John helped bring an edge and simplicity that had only been hinted at in previous efforts, but the most significant change came in the form of an attractive, vivacious singer named Kimberlina. "We had used a lot of female harmony vocals in the past and got rave reviews about how well our music lended itself to that kind of sound."
"I was a fan of their band long before I ever asked if I could sing with them. They were already established so I didn't think they would go for it, but I was pleasantly surprised at their willingness to give me a shot. When I was first asked to join they had a different name, and I was just to be their touring harmonist, but something happened that would change the band dynamic forever. "
In 2001, when writing sessions started for the CD, "Not Compatible with my System", Jeffry announced that he wanted to try something different. "I really felt that I wanted to take my writing and guitar playing in a bolder direction, so I asked Kim if she thought she could take over as 'Front-Person'. Once we tried it there was no going back!"
At this point the band's lyrics started focusing on the humorous aspects of growing into your own skin."Any situation can be positive if you look hard enough, and at some point it becomes much more healthy to laugh at yourself than to be depressed. That is what we want to share with our audience, and Kimberlina has the perfect vocal delivery and visual presentation for that kind of music. She has the potential to be the spokeswoman for 'witty-teenage-angst'
