Put 3 smokin' players with decades of top-shelf experience together and you have KG3.
Lloyd Poole-drums, vocals is a West Coast native, came of age in late 60's San Francisco and has played with many international rock stars. Lloyd has toured the world 3 times and he toured with Sugarloaf in the mid-70's. He has played with current and/or former members of Ozzy Osbourne, Santana, Journey, Night Ranger, Steppenwolf, the Doobie Brothers and many others. He has shared the stage with Heart, Van Morrison, Aerosmith, Tower of Power, the Youngbloods and many others.
Tom Mullin-lead guitar, vocals hails from the heartland and has toured with Dennis Provisor of Grass Roots fame.
↓ more ↓His boyhood friend and former band mate John 'JR' Robinson is now considered the world's most recorded drummer and has performed with just about everyone who is anyone in pop music, including Ray Charles, Eric Clapton, Barbra Streisand and a very long list of others.
Newcomer Mike Keesal-bass, vocals spent 15 years working the L.A. metal scene and more recently worked the Seattle scene, studying guitar with Roger Fisher of Heart fame.
KG3 formed in 2003 soon after original bassist Tony Hartness met Lloyd on North Whidbey Island. Lloyd had returned to Whidbey, where he spent much of his youth, after retiring from 3 decades of extensive full-time performing, wanting to live the quiet island life. Through a mutual acquaintance Tony met Tom, also on hiatus from decades of performing, who had recently moved to Whidbey from the upper Midwest by way of Portland Oregon and Salt Lake City Utah. Lloyd agreed to jam with Tony and Tom one time only and expected that would be the end of it, but the chemistry, musicianship and companionship kept him coming back for more and soon blossomed into KG3.
KG3 began recording Not So Much, their debut CD, in September 2004 and after countless marathon recording, listening, mixing and mastering sessions in the band's own studio, sent the master to be manufactured in October 2005. On Halloween, the 2nd anniversary of KG3’s first public performance, they played the CD music live in published song order to a capacity crowd at the same nearby pub where Lloyd and Tony first met. The response was overwhelmingly positive, encouraging the band to further promote the CD.
Tony resigned from KG3 in March 2006 due to flagging health. Disappointed but not to be deterred, Lloyd and Tom began searching in earnest for a suitable replacement that would fit the band musically and keep the positive KG3 interpersonal chemistry alive. After a string of tryouts they located Mike Keesal who fit the band perfectly.
KG3 plans to begin working on a followup CD expected to be released sometime in 2007, based on newly composed material. Most of the songs on Not So Much had been composed several years prior and recorded on demo tracks individually by Lloyd, Tom and Tony; KG3 put their own spin on the tunes to create the Not So Much album.
DJ Pooner Clark interviewed KG3 live in the studio on Bellingham WA radio station KISM (Classic Rock 92.9 FM) on his Sunday evening ‘Locals Only’ radio program in November 2005. Songs from Not So Much have since garnered repeated airplay on KISM.
