More solo bass guitar. This time the exploration includes full band instrumentals, soundscapes, funk songs, surf tunes and love songs. The bass is always front and center.
Bio / Background
Kevin O'Reilly was born on July 13th, 1969 in Chitose, Japan on the island of Hokkaido. He picked up the bass in high school, starting in a punk rock band named Wasted Sperm that played exactly two songs for one show and his 'career' was born..
Kevin insists on exploring and learning different musical styles and that has led to numerous strange journeys. Highlights have included playing with Steeplejack founder and solo artist Andy Sullivan and one-time Big Nazoo Puppet Theater member Jeremy Woodward as well as classical guitarist/lute player Seth Warner. For two years in the early '90's Kevin was a member of Love Cactus where he gained notoriety with his "...furious rocker..."(FACE Magazine) 'Divebomber', "...one of the catchiest local songs these days" as the Portland Press Herald put it. Currently Kevin is a member of the Dave Rowe Trio, exploring folk, bluegrass, Celtic and maritime music.
↓ more ↓In 1995 Kevin began seriously exploring the idea of solo music, which led creating solo pieces for bass guitar. The discovery of Eberhard Weber and looping opened up vast new worlds to explore and eventually yielded the CD Acidron, released in 1998. Kevin followed that up with a second CD The View From Left Field in 2000. His work has been highly praised by a variety of magazines and online publications. FACE magazine claimed that "O'Reilly makes you see through your ears."
Currently Kevin resides in West Bethel, Maine with his wife Nancy and their two cats Inge and Wolke. He holds a Bachelor's Degree in Secondary Social Sciences and a Master's Degree in Counseling Education. Kevin was the Guidance Director at Dirigo High School in Dixfield, Maine from 1995 to 2005. He is currently a guidance counselor at Telstar High School in Bethel, Maine and was recently elected President-Elect of the Maine Counseling Association. He coached both the boys and girls cross country teams at Dirigo for five years. The boy's team won the Mountain Valley Conference Championship in 2000.
