Kevin Griffin is like more Springsteen than Dave Matthews, more like Johnny Cash than Bob Dylan and more like Van Morrison than Paul Simon. He tells stories, from a boy's dream to ride the fire truck to a murderer on the run.

Two of my songs mention New Orleans. (Annie Please and Skippy Drives) I went to Jazz Fest in 2002 and it just got under my skin, I guess. Well, it just seems right to help if I can. So buy the cd and help New Orleans.

From THE BOSTON GLOBE - Boston's Kevin Griffin says he wants to write songs like Paul Simon, sing like Marvin Gaye, and be cool like Johnny Cash. Now that's a tall order. But he should have added Bob Dylan and Willie Nile because that's who he sounds like on his debut CD, "Red Skies," with his nasally affective voice and folk-blues guitar style.
↓ more ↓The title track is a real keeper, and "Go On" has a neat line about old folks telling long-winded stories to the young folks: "Go on, tell it to the grandkids/PG versions they won't forget."
"Listened the other day. Good record. Liked the first song best. A good driving tune!"

Charming, handsome, funny, intelligent, talented . . . these are some of the qualities that come to mind when we think of the ideal folk/blues performer. Coincidentally, Kevin Griffin - singer-songwriter, guitarist, and our good friend - performs tonight as part of his new month-long residency at the Lizard Lounge (1667 Mass Ave, Cambridge). He'll be belting out tunes from his new CD, Red Skies, just out on Tricycle Music. With any luck, he'll also do one of his world-famous Scottish-brogue imitations. That one slays the crowd every time! Plus, Kevin is a very charming, handsome, funny, intelligent, and talented folk/blues performer. The show starts around 9.

Red Skies
Folk singers with acoustic guitars are a dime a dozen on every street in every neighborhood in every city in America. But some stand out much more than others. Take the breath of fresh folk-air that is Kevin Griffin, straight outta Boston. Initial listens invoke a bit of Dylan, a little Dave Matthews, and (thankfully) a whole lot of Griffin's rich guitar strums and wizened vocals. The title track shines, and the gorgeous "Annie Please" (the plea of a man accused of murder) is as soul-searching as any song you'll hear.

Blessed (and cursed) with a bluesy voice, Kevin Griffin mixes folk lyrics, pop melodies, and an acoustic guitar into some catchy songs.
Kevin says all he wants to do is write songs like Paul Simon, sing like Marvin Gaye, and be cool like Johnny Cash.
He currently resides in Boston and has been seen recently at many Boston area clubs, including the Paradise Lounge, Kendall Cafe, T.T. the Bears, The Lizard Lounge, TOWER RECORDS and the Midway Cafe. He has also played the Block Island Folk Festival and, with his band Henshaw, has played TOAD in Somerville.
RED SKIES features ten great acoustic roots rock songs that you will quickly find yourself singing along with. Kevin's songs feel immediately comfortable, with only his acoustic guitar (and some occasional harmonica) joining his unique voice to make a CD that is sure to become a staple in your CD-listening rotation.
