Bio / Background
Kelly Austin.
Every musician seems to have a story, a history. Austin is a man with no exception. His book of life already has many pages written in it. He doesn’t flaunt his past; it’s not visible, and you won’t see it most times, but if it helps, he’ll read awhile with you from this book.
Austin’s family is littered with musicians (Charlie and Will Sexton to name a few). He began exploring his talent when he was twelve on a set of drums at church. After purchasing drums for home, his family slowly migrated them from his room to the garage because he played with such intensity. His mom still has stainless steel bowls that he beat out of round as a toddler and child. They are a bit harder to stir things up in, but full of memories.
His progression from drums to all things percussion were as natural to him as flying is to pilots, breathing is to divers and exploration is to mountaineers. Next, he taught himself to play guitar and piano, all by ear.
↓ more ↓By then, he was also finding his voice and learning to worship. Those really were years of exploration.
During his tumultuous teenage years, he began song writing, a release, a joy, an escape, a perfect way of expression.
College is important to Austin but he is driven by many things: Jesus, worship, music, family, friends, ADHD, adventure, learning. He is still discovering what this life will bring, just like the rest of us. All he knows for sure is that he is a born worshipper.
