Combine equal parts arresting lyrics and magnetic melodies, add a pinch of blues, and mix in ballads, club hits, and mellow grooves--a recipe for hit songs that will move your mind, heart, and feet.
Bio / Background
Singer/songwriter Karla Margallo will be the one to break the sound barrier that her peers have been trying to tear down for many years now. Mixing hip-hop, R&B, rock and Filipino elements with honest lyrics, her music is fresh, progressive, and eclectic. . .but, most importantly, it hits home.
With the Fall 2005 release of her independent debut album Honest., Karla will begin to effortlessly penetrate the hearts of her audience with the single “You Missed My Lips.” In this track Karla passionately recaptures a twisted love story with her sincere lyrics and heart-clenching vocals put to a sexy Filipino tribal beat. The second single she will promote is “Treat Ya Right”—a bluesy, baby-making hit that will have the ladies agreeing, men taking notes and everyone singing along.
Born in the Philippines, raised in New Jersey, 23-year old Anna Karla Margallo just recently finished her dual degree at Berklee College of Music in Music Business/Management and Songwriting.
↓ more ↓Although she’s been singing since she was a baby, performing since she was three, and writing songs since she was 13, Karla thought she was destined to pursue a career in medicine. Fortunately, she had enough passion and drive to follow her heart and take on the responsibility of sharing her gift of music.
Karla’s musical journey is reflected in her art. Carrying her little boom box around the house, she grew up listening to Top 40 on the New York City radio airwaves and looked up to divas like Madonna, Janet Jackson, Whitney Houston and Mariah Carey. Eventually her musical horizons broadened as she discovered R&B, alternative rock, hip-hop, folk and old-time classics and studied classical piano and voice and also contemporary music theory.
Whether they're ballads, mellow grooves, or club hits, most of Karla's songs have an innate bluesy feel, yet her album is diverse in musical styles--a necessity, all for the sake of prosody and sincerity. But Karla’s songwriting skills tie everything together—she has cleverly penned her experiences into lyrically driven, yet musically magnetic songs that can move any person...mind, heart or feet.
On a lighter note:
"Sure, like many other singers and songwriters, I admire and am influenced by legends like Stevie Wonder, the Beatles, Smokey Robison, Carole King and so on. I mean, what else is new? But I'm not ashamed to admit that my original musical inspiration came from the 80's cartoon series Jem and the Holograms."
This is Karla Margallo—Honest.
