Bio / Background
Kaleo Wheeler’s mission is to inspire and motivate people to make the world a better place. She does this by creating a world of beauty, especially through her voice, music, and dance; by living in Divine Love (aloha); and by helping others to have harmonious relationships with themselves, each other and the environment.
She has been singing for as far back as she can remember, and started her formal training when she was in her early teens after two different doctors on two different occasions told her mother that she had an unusually large opening in her throat which was characteristic of exceptional singers. She also discovered a love for dance at an early age, dancing to records in her front room. She began performing in her teens and has never stopped. She now has over 30 years of vocal and dance training and performing experience. Her background in voice is in classical, as well as popular music, chanting, toning and therapuetic music.
↓ more ↓She began studying and playing the Celtic harp, especially to accompany herself, in 2001.
She has appeared professionally in cabaret, nightclubs, and musical theater which included the lead role in Mame. She is the vocalist on the recordings, Mother Earth dance by Jack Conrad and The Awakening by Sharon Russell. She also has just completed her first solo CD, Ulana, The Way of the Heart.
Since the late 1980s Kaleo has received extensive training in traditional Hawaiian chant and hula, both in Hawaii and on the mainland with various Kumu Hula (traditional teachers), including Aloha Dalire and Keith Awai, since 1989. The hulas that she now shares come from Kawaikapuokalani Hewett, a Kumu Hula, healer and kahuna. She was a member of the Na 'Olapa O Ka La hula troupe in Florida and ........ in Kaua'i, Hawai'I; and continues to perform solo for private parties and organizations throughout the US and Canada, including the Le Festival Mondial de Folklore de Drummondville in Quebec, Canada.
Kaleo is also the founder of Pohala Awakenings™. She has been counseling and facilitating classes and workshops in spiritual and personal development, voice and movement throughout the US and Canada since 1984, including the Omega Institute in Rheinbeck, New York.
She has been a licensed senior teacher and registered acupressurist of Jin Shin Do® Bodymind Acupressure™ since 1988; is a contributing author of The Complete Guide to Acupressure; and was also a Florida licensed massage therapist from 1985 to 2004. She has been a certified voice specialist and a therapeutic music practitioner for over 20 years; has completed her training in Tama-Do, vibrational sound therapy that incorporates sound, movement and color; and is a certified Voice BioAnalysis©™ practitioner. She has studied Hawaiian spirituality with Kahiliopua Wong-Brentlinger, huna with Serge Kahili King, Huna Mua with Phil Young, and Self-Identity Ho'oponopono with Dr.
She apprenticed with Oh Shinnah Fastwolf, for 14 years; studied Native American spirituality and sound healing with Beautiful Painted Arrow, and the Medicine Wheel with Twylah Nitsch. She was initiated into an ancient sisterhood and continues to conduct ceremonies and trainings in embracing the Goddess/feminine and bringing it into balance with the masculine. She has studied Celtic spiritual and healing through the Order of Bards, Ovates and Druids, which is her ancestral heritage; and is currently studying Celtic/druidic chant through the Ceille De, a spiritual Druidic order from Scotland. She has also been an ordained minister, performing weddings and rites of passage celebrations since the late 80’s,
Kaleo’s work, both through her music and her spiritual development trainings, represents the graceful culmination of her vast professional training and profound personal insights. She brings you new dimensions of thought, experience and practice – but these ways of being are not new. They are very ancient and have tremendous roots in history. In going back, you can learn how to go forward to transform you whole body/mind/spirit system. She performs and teaches from a natural, gentle tradition that incorporates integrity, freedom, sacredness, and fun as a means of empowering you to live your best life. The experience and skills you will gain from Kaleo can be used in all aspects of your life including: work, home, recreation, health, and prayer.
