Bio / Background
Julian Vazquez, known artistically as Julian was born in Passiac, New Jersey, on August 11, 1965. Julian was raised in The Bronx, New York. Born to a very close Puerto Rican family. He knows where his musical talents stems from; his father, Julian Vazquez, Sr. was an incredibly gifted guitar player who accompanied well known Puerto Rican musicians of his times, namely; Yomo Toro and Ramito.
My life took a musical turn when I lived in Puerto Rico. I was influenced by the Salsa, Merengue and folk music known as Aguinaldos. Throughout the holiday season I would play the Guiro and sing along with other musicians when we would serenade our friends at their homes. This tradition is called PARANDA. My return to New York City lead me to achieve various song writing and recording opportunities.
In 1995 I released a single on the Rodven / Polygram / Prodicos label titled "Senorita" then "Burun Bun Bun"on Psuedo Records.
↓ more ↓It was in 1997 that I joined forces with DJ Lucho from NYC with whom I collaborated on several projects and was featured on: "Toro Mata" / H.O.L.A. Records; "Busta Bomba" and "Manos Arriba"/Wea Latin; "La Bandera" /Cutting Records. I wrote songs for Vicarious Records recording artist JADE ESTEBAN ESTRADA song titled "Bella Morena" also for UC Latin Records recording artist DINO LATINO song titled "Echa Pa Ca" and Sony Latin recording artist Grupo EXKLA song titled "Se Derrumbo". It was also in 1997 that I signed with JELLY BEAN BENITEZ and released my second single on H.O.L.A Records titled "Ponte A Mover" and featured on "Baile" for the HOLA MI GENTE compilation album. A subsequent tour to promote the album in Tijuana Mexico, The Conga Room in Los Angeles, The Shadow Lounge in Miami and Club Exit in New York City was successful. I appeared on a video by Cutting Records Artist Fulanito titled " LA NOVELA " along with PROJECTO UNO in 1999.
"BATONGO" is the name of the album and the title of the first single on my Indie label: BATONGO RECORDS. ******PREPARATE PARA BAILAR Y GOZAR******
