"Half boogie piano, half Memphis soul, plus another half of folky swing. JT & the Clouds put soul into the white roots sound." Americana UK
Bio / Background
Check what the critics are saying. This isn't your typical folk act. The Clouds dish out roots rock injected with a touch of Memphis soul. This is a sound born in the Midwest bar scene, refined in the Bay Area folk clubs, and now hardened by the funk of Chicago, the band's adopted home. "Delilah" places JT & The Clouds squarely in the new wave of roots music up and comers, and places Jeremy Lindsay among the rising stars of American songwriting.
Guest artists include James Nash and Chojo Jaques of The Waybacks. The Be Good Tanyas have covered the song "Scattered Leaves," and the Clouds' own version was featured on NPR's All Songs considered. "How You Left Me" has been licensed for an upcoming Lions Gate film, "Man Thing."
2004 highlights included constant touring in the Midwest, a live performance on the legendary California roots station KPIG, and the band's NYC debut at the Living Room.
↓ more ↓The band's traditional influences range from the country rock of The Band and Gram Parsons, to the big city beat of Prince. We like to call this Country Soul, and after one listen we think that you'll hear why. Welcome aboard.
"Half boogie piano, half Memphis soul, plus another half of folky swing . . . they put soul into the white roots sound." (Americana UK)
"Each tune is a finely toned exercise in melodic precision." (Knoxville News Sentinel)
"The band combines the blues, country and pop into a catchy mix." (Toledo Blade)
"And they're funny.'Dust to Dust Blues'echoes Bob Dylan's lighter blues works - think 'Leopard-Skin Pillbox Hat' from 'Blonde on Blonde' - and the wordplay of 'Baby I Love Your Mind' makes for a wonderfully twisted love song." (InsideBaltimore.com)
"The band's tight musicicanship makes every tune precise and muscled." (Ann Arbor Current)
"Americana is a big tent. The Chicago-based JT & The Clouds, led by Jeremy Lindsay, makes use of every square inch of that space and expands it a few more . . . The songs average four and a half minutes, but you'll wish they were longer. You'll wish the CD was longer and you'll wish they were playing near you. JT & The Clouds are that good. This CD goes on my Best of 2004 list. (Freight Train Boogie)
"JT & the Clouds play country-tinged bar rock with surprising range. Frontman Jeremy Lindsay leads his Clouds from the doghouse to the roadhouse on the band's 'Delilah.'" (Time Out New York)
