Acoustic-rock with a touch of blues and a hint of jazz. Powerful vocals.
Bio / Background
Jennifer Peterson exudes sensuality, intelligence, and spunk. Her song-writing style upholds a tradition of empowered women in music like Joni Mitchell and Carole King. She combines the subtleties of Sarah McLachlan with the pop-appeal of Sheryl Crow. Her powerful performance captivates and inspires audiences.
Jennifer's debut EP, released in August 2000, showcases a solid set of emotionally charged songs. Her lyrics are bold and melodies, contagious. The opening track, "Chained," is an upbeat tune that blossoms into a catchy chorus about a man trapped in love. "Only One" jams an infectious rock groove as she commands, "shut your mouthâ¦get over here and love me." Sultry jazz and playful lyrics in "Sullen Eyes" provide a unique diving board into the final, cello-driven ballad "Loud Enough."
A native of Chicago, Jennifer studied music composition at Columbia College where she was forced to take piano lessons.
↓ more ↓She hated them! But when she started composing her own music, she learned to love the feel of the keys and now she can't stop playing. "It's like breathing," she says.
Jennifer Peterson has developed a loyal following in the Midwest. She has taken the stage at a variety of Chicago venues, such as Schuba's, the Abbey, Martyr's, and the Chicago Cultural Center. In the past year, her tours have expanded to include Kansas City, Indianapolis, and Milwaukee.
In today's musical panorama of stereotypical divas and bubble-gum pop, Jennifer Peterson fills a void. She is a woman amongst girls with something powerful to share. With her second album expected next Spring, Jennifer Peterson is on the brink of critical and commercial success as one of Chicago's top independent artists.

"Jennifer's voice really carries this release: strong yet not overpowering, passionate and pretty with a twinge of upper-midwest twang. Catchy melodies and excellent production...allow her great voice to really shine. Votes for best tracks are the dramatic, build-up of the closing "Loud Enough," the jazzy/sexy "Sullen Eyes" and...the very sexy, up-tempo "Only One."

"In Your Hands," the melodic third track, finds her establishing a more distinctive style of writing and singing. "Only One," the album's solitary rock tune, paints her as a believably bad ass lover who declares, "Shut your mouth, get over here and love me," while "Sullen Eyes" is rendered as a slinky jazz tune. Electric violin and cello player Shawn Cooper provides a dramatic backdrop for the slow and romantic "Loud Enough."
