Bio / Background
JONNO is a South Louisiana musician who has explored the roots music of the region for over twenty years, playing Cajun, Blues, Zydeco, Swamp Pop, and Rock'n'Roll. Currently, Jonno is a member of the Cajun/Creole band, Charivari (charivaricajunband.com). This group (Rounder Records, rounder.com) arranges traditional tunes and new compositions with a powerful rhythm section. Jonno also does recording sessions, live gigs, songwriting and teaching. His main instruments are fiddle (violin), cajun accordion, guitar and voice.
Over the years, Jonno has formed his own groups in addition to producing CDs and collaborating on projects associated with South Louisiana music and dance (see "detailed resume"). His recently released solo CD (which features a full studio band) is a reflection of over twenty years on the South Louisiana music scene. Titled SOUTH TO LOUISIANA, it features compositions by Clifton Chenier, Lawrence Walker, Hank Williams, and Jonno Frishberg, among others.
