To write poetry is a calling. To write really moving poetry is a gift. To make this poetry come alive with music is nothing short of magic. Kaydi Johnson manifests this magic in her work. She rolls forceful and racy lyrics into short stories and cinematic slices of life. Poetic rockets that launch her listeners into musical space. Her lyrics and music find new ways to explore such themes as living, loving and love lost. Whether it’s the moon--or undressing--she’s singing about, Kaydi’s songs stay with you long after they have ended. Haunting and joyous. Provocative and poetic. Magnetic and musically delicious word plays that always charm the ears, hearts and minds of her listeners.
Kaydi was selected for the Falcon Ridge Emerging Artist Showcase in new York, 2003. She has opened for David Crosby, Robert Earl Keene and Lucy Kaplansky. She was one of the top ten regional New York finalists for the 2006 Mountain Stage New Song Festival at River to River Festival in NYC.
