A political song which has a very strong message to those in authority, especially dictator Moi; the song is banned in Kenya and as result of the song the artist had to flea from Kenya and seek exile in the US.
Bio / Background
JP's Murathi wa kihooto is a political song and the second project of JP. This cassette was recorded in 1992 as a tribute of mwai kibaki's D.P.Party. In his message, JP accuses the government of dictator Moi of massive corruption, jailing and killing of university students. Killing of the former minister of foreign affairs and international cooperation, Dr. Robert Ouko. Detaining of political prisoners without trial and also making a lot of intellectual people to run away from Kenya and become economic refugees in foreign countries. Although the cassette had every good reception it also made him to be in the bad books of the Moi government and he had to go to hiding to evade arrest. JP, who is currently residing in USA since 1996, recorded his third CD known as Ndikwenda kigacwa in 2001.
Unlike many Kenyan musicians of kikuyu origin whom majority comes from Gatanga division in muranga district, JP was born in kamirithu sub/location in Limuru division of Kiambu district.
