Bio / Background
For as long as I can remember, I have been involved in the music making process. Although my passion lies with Hip Hop, I've spent plenty of time honing my skills over the years in a variety of different ways. I marched alongside the other “band geeks” at high school football games and competitions; and also played sax for an underground Ska band called The Specs. We were ten guys in a van with all of our gear and only enough money for one room. At the gigs, me and another player had to wait outside until it was time to play because we were under age. After the shows, we would split the money and barely have enough for gas to get home and chips and soda for our long drive back to L.A. The money never mattered. It was always about the journey, the thrill of the show, and the respect from my peers. It was this mentality that got me hooked on performing live shows. As I got older, the songs may have changed but the passion remained. A guest list, a few drink tickets, and we were there.
↓ more ↓My group, The Gift Shop, spent many nights performing for empty clubs, but we were still there. This definitely made us appreciate the crowded nights and packed clubs even more. Mainly with the local talent for the diehard Hip Hop fans but every once in a while we would share the stage with Living Legends like: KRS 1, Gang Staar, & Smiff En Wesson, The Liks, The Pharcyde & also ground breaking groups like Planet Asia, Ugly Duckling, Medusa & Visionaries just to name a few. Now my situation has changed with the birth of my beautiful baby boy William I got to get this business going. Now I'm a solo artist. My goal is to be a consistent working writer and programmer. My dream is to make music, go on tour & sell records also do charity functions for AID'S research along with film & T.V. placements. I would like to produce for other artist as well. Over all make an impact on my world and the people around me. So far I've managed to get a decent fan base on myspace.com/jlove Filmed 3 music videos with the help of my friends & I got my album "Rhythm Essential" on iTunes & 63 other online retailers. "Hip Hop" the music video got played the month of April on Com-cast video on demand. My song “Feel It” is being used in the premier showing of the IFC show "The Minor Accomplishments of Jackie Woodman." So I ultimately want to keep building & growing. Musical Inspiration: KRS 1, Busta Rhymes, Brand Nubian, A Tribe Called Quest, Big Daddy Kane, Run DMC, EPMD, Black Sheep, Stevie Wonder, Bob Marley, Steel Pulse, Luther Vandross, Phil Collins, Sade, Mary J. Biige, Biggie Smalls, The Specials, Peter Gabriel, Herbie Hancock, The Police, Deodato 2
