Massive, minimal and melodic. Steve Reich meets My Bloody Valentine.
Bio / Background
In 2003 I began recording my first solo project, Sleight of Hand. The mission was simple: produce an outstanding, unusual solo album without studio trickery. Everything had to be playable live.
But I'm not a typical coffee-shop guitarist, and I wasn't in the mood to write lyrics, so the time-honored "acoustic guitar and a microphone" route wouldn't do.
I was listening to My Bloody Valentine, Bows, the Beach Boys, Steve Reich and other sources of dense, deep sound, and I wanted to produce music of similar weight and beauty.
I needed a looper pedal. After purchasing a Line 6 Delay Modeler, I established the rules that would guide the creation of Sleight of Hand:
1) One instrument per song
2) Record each song "live"
3) Use 50/50 composition/improvisation
4) No overdubs
5) Record at home
I hope you find the results as satisfying and enjoyable as I do!
