The Ballad of Calamity by Jena Douglas

Jena is fortunate to have many talented musicians from her own family to choose from, like Keith and Aaron, her brother, plays stand up bass on, "Sweet as You" and her son Dylan Douglas, who at the tender age of 12 yrs., plays percussion on most of the songs and bass on "Again Someday.'' Dylan is also in Jena's acoustic group, Jmuse. Jmuse is featured on the songs, Boy, Again Someday, From Your Fire, Kings and Queens Rodeo and Goodbye. Todd Grant is the acoustic lead guitar player and background vocal. Todd is a member of a local bluegrass band, The Floyd County Boys. The Floyd County Boys have been together since 1964. Jena has known Todd since 1978. A new friend and true bohemian is Steve Emanuel who plays Stand up bass on "From your Fire" and "Goodbye". Steve is a very sought after bass player in Santa Barbara and keeps very busy playing in several bands. Barbara Coventry plays violin for the Santa Barbara Symphony and is very active in some groups of her own. Jena met Barbara at a song-writing camp called SummerSongs that both Kenny and jena attend. She is classically trained but can rock and saw when she needs to. Dr. John Clark is a music professor up at Santa Barbara City College. He plays piano on the only cover tune, "Walk On By". John is a good friend who supports his students, current or former. He is a composer, songwriter, and teacher. Robinson Eikenberry is a genius in the studio and is the best kept secret in Santa Barbara. What an ear and what a good time. Robinson is a very popular producer/engineer. Currently, he is mixing a Karla Bonoff live CD. Yes, he's that good.

Kenny Edwards says about the album, "Anyone can make a music CD, but this is like music theater".

"The Ballad of Calamity" is a sonic tapestry woven by the threads of Jena's varied musical influences, from Pink Floyd to Bela Bartok. Recording songs is an art form. In the studio the songs become a picture of the moment of each song. Some songs are recorded simply, such as "Goodbye", while others have a complex texture involving an added soundscape, like "You Don't Wanna Know". "The Ballad of Calamity" takes the listener on a journey through Jena's life and hometown of Santa Barbara CA, USA, but it could be anywhere. Currently, Jena is submitting her songs to film and TV.

Jena will be making a film for " I am Powerless" and "You Don't Wanna Know" and will be touring to promote her CD,"The Ballad of Calamity".

Jena is back in the studio with Robinson. This will be Jena's 3 album. The title is "The Voyage of Ophelia ."
