A young, high energy blues based band with Jazz and Rock influences tangled into the mix, playing both original tunes and covers.
Bio / Background
Johnny Duke and the Aces is a young, high-energy blues band inspired by Texas and Delta blues, Jazz, and Rock styles. They play both originals and covers, with covers varying from Robert Johnson to Jimi Hendrix.
The band recently returned from a trip to Los Angeles where they shot a music video for a new original tune called "Don't Feel Too Good", which is going to be featured on their new album (entitled "Taillights", scheduled for release on June 16th at World Cafe Live in Philadelphia). The video can be seen on the band's website, myspace and Sonicbids EPK site.
"Johnny Duke" Lippincott is an inspiration to guitarists all around the Delaware area. Having Mississippi roots, the Delta-blues style of music is frequently evident in his guitar playing.
↓ more ↓David Bromberg, Johnny's mentor, said in the international magazine Dirty Linen, "If you stick around tonight, there's a 16-year old guitar player who is as good a blues guitar player as any I've ever played with, and I've played with some really good guitar players. That's John Lippincott. He's a killer!" Just recently, Bromberg said in an article of the Philadelphia Inquirer that Johnny is "the best electric blues player in town". With Johnny Duke and the Aces, John continues to impress people with his showmanship, his talented songwriting, and his guitar skills that are graceful, moving, and "professional", as recently stated by the King of the Blues himself, B.B. King. He will be attending Berklee School of Music in Boston in Fall 2006.
While on the prowl to find band members, John had a specific structure and sound in mind; a four piece with a lot of raw power and talent, to match his level. And that is what he got. Cam Tyler, an experienced and talented drummer, fit right in when he started jamming with Johnny. By applying his inspirations from Funk, Jazz, and Gospel music, Cam has been able to create his own signature sound that is truly unique in this blues-based quartet. He will be attending the Drummer's Collective in New York City in Fall 2006.
Ian "the Wild Man" Walsh, who puts down his silky-smooth bass lines and back-up vocals, is a crucial part of Johnny Duke and the Aces. Ian, who has been building on an in-the-pocket tightness with Cam Tyler since a very early age, was a natural addition to the band and provides that great bass sound to back up Johnny on guitar. Watch for his funky, in-your-face, slappin' and popin' bass sound!
For the begining of the new 2006 year, JDA has invited Parrish Warrington to join the band, playing guitar and backup vocals. Parrish, another talented young player, has made countless appreances with the band before and is now a full time member of the group. His great rhythm playing and seasoned singing is the finishing touch, creating a much fuller sound to the band as a whole. You may find Parrish singing lead on tunes, belting out three-part harmonies or even dueling Johnny in some guitar solos that will leave you dumbfounded.
Together, these four determined youngsters have become the "talk of the town", so to speak, in the Delaware area. They have played at numerous venues all around Northern Delaware and now play down at the Delaware beaches during the summer. Johnny Duke and the Aces is truly a sight to see and hear because of their professional-caliber sound and feel, despite their young age. Now with two professional records under their belts and their always increasing fan-base, these guys are bound for stardom.
