Two-minute indie pop songs with one human in the middle.
Bio / Background
High is a great place. It's layers of guitars, smoky bass, stark drums, strange organ sounds, and tender vocals. It's two-minute indie pop songs with one human in the middle: Jay Sad.
Citing The Microphones and Beat Happening as influences, but coming across like an unsigned Elliot Smith or Four Tet, Jay Sad infuses his addiction to sound documentation with catchy melodies and complex arrangements.
Moments of lo-fidelity give rise to pop gems like "October" and "Ingredients". "June", on the other hand, is blissful organic electronica reminiscent of Morr Records.
For High, Jay played every instrument (save for some drumming by Silvana Bruni of The Great Forgetting), slowly building the album in a makeshift studio in Toronto, Canada. His vision extends right into the final product with all packaging details lovingly tended to by Jay himself.
High follows Jay Sad's 2002 limited edition box set of 4 mini-CDs - an epic of the cutest proportions.
↓ more ↓His future looks busy with increasing involvement in Film House Recordings, a team devoted to quality recording of many exciting projects, including (thankfully) further releases from Jay Sad.
Prepare to get High.
