BIOGRAPHY - JAYLENE JOHNSON
The first part of 2007 has been busy for singer/songwriter, Jaylene Johnson. She signed a new co-publishing deal (Casablanca Media Publishing), resulting in co-writing trips to Nashville and Toronto. She’s also had music licensing offers, including a placement in “The Black Donnellys” for iTunes. She’ll test some of her new songs on a solo tour in Alberta, Saskatchewan and BC, which is something of a miracle…
The release of her sophomore project, “Finding Beautiful” in 2004 was met with great reviews and ample opportunities for promotion, including a Western Canadian Music Award Nomination and Pop Showcase at the awards festival. In addition to a tour with Juno Award winner, Jill Paquette, she spent the fall of that year touring solo for three months, beginning in Campbell River, B.C. and making her way to the Maritimes by car. But what began with a bang ended with a crash-literally.
↓ more ↓On her way home from the East Coast, she found herself in a head-on collision with a semi-truck on the TransCanada highway. Unable to tour or promote her music, she stepped away from music for a little over a year.
Despite the unexpected halt to her career as she knew it, momentum continued. Her music received placements through SONY Pictures TV, for shows such as CBS’s Joan of Arcadia and ABC’s Beautiful People, and the DVD release of Dawson’s Creek -Season 6. Sales of “Finding Beautiful” got a boost when she registered with CD Baby and received a glowing review on their front page, and her song “Butterfly Girl” was recorded by a new trio called “Braided”, formed by three Canadian Idol finalists and produced by Canadian Idol music director, Mark Lalama.
Jaylene spent the better part of 2006 reconnecting with the music community and establishing her network in the industry. She attended Canadian Music Week in March, spent two weeks co-writing in Nashville in April, and sat on a panel for SOCAN at the NXNE music conference. Through attendance at these conferences, she met Ed Glinert of Casablanca Media Publishing in Toronto, and negotiations for a co-publishing and administration deal ensued. Jaylene’s also been co-writing and producing demos with Chris Burke-Gaffney and Arun Chaturvedi, with the assistance of Manitoba Film and Sound and FACTOR.
Plans for a new record evolve as new tunes are penned. For now, Jaylene is just happy to be strong enough to tour on her own again. In fall of 2006, she toured with Cat Jahnke, but her Spring tour will find her traveling solo, playing music venues in Calgary and Edmonton, and performing concerts and house concerts.

She reminds me of Lisa Loeb. All 10 tracks contain amazingly meaningful lyrics that's bound to capture the listeners. I personally love the intro music for 'Sit Awhile', serenading me with soothing plucks of the guitar. 'Here & Now''s lyrics was heartfelt. Many have actually lost the actual meaning of life and living it, by chasing dreams and physical objects. Worth listening to as it helps reminding people of things that are important & matter most, but almost forgotten.
