Bio / Background
ArtistShare and Zoho recording artist Dr. Keith Javors shares the rare distinction of excellence as both a creative artist and an award-winning music educator. Described by legendary jazz saxophonist Bunky Green as a “creative force with an urgent message that cannot be denied”, Keith is an internationally-recognized performer and clinician and is in demand as a producer, pianist, composer, teacher, and consultant.
The eclectic "The Free Project" is Keith’s fourth recording as a leader and his first on the ArtistShare label (ArtistShare 0011). Featuring the 6-member A.M.P. (acronym for American Music Project) and drawing from jazz, rap, R & B, and world music sources, it is one of several recordings that feature his original compositions. In 2004, Keith released "Mo’ City Jungle" (Zoho 200403) to rave reviews and top national radio charting. AllAboutJazz.
↓ more ↓com says “Not since Kenny Garrett’s Standard of Language and Terence Blanchard’s Bounce has there been a post bop album this exciting. Mo’ City Jungle is not for the faint-at-heart; this is vital, energized music that is captivating from start to finish.” Several new projects are due for release through 2008, including “On the Bright Side”, the debut release by the A.M.P., a ballads album with Bunky Green, and “Coming Together: A Tribute to B” with Chris Potter, Steve Wilson, Terell Stafford, Delbert Felix, and John Davis.
Keith has performed at numerous festivals (list) and clubs (list). He has played with Bob Mintzer, George Coleman, Bunky Green, Eddie Henderson, Conrad Herwig, Gerry Mulligan, Ira Sullivan, Brad Turner, and Bill Watrous to name only a few. Keith has produced successful concert collaborations with artists including Béla Fleck and the Flecktones, Terence Blanchard, Dave Brubeck, Kenny Garrett, Slide Hampton, the Heath Brothers, Dave Holland, Pat Martino, Eddie Palmieri, Sam Rivers, Maria Schneider, and Clark Terry.
Keith is a distinguished graduate of the University of North Texas (B.M., M.M), where he played in the One O’Clock Lab Band and was voted Outstanding Graduate Student of the Year, and the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (Ed.D.). He has won countless high accolades as an educator and has taught at UNT, UIUC, Eastern Illinois University, the University of Northern Florida, and the Settlement Music School. Keith was named to the highest percentile of those already included on the “Incomplete List of Teachers Ranked as Excellent by Their Students” five times in a row and has been cited in DownBeat as “one the best teachers in the country.” Ensembles he has directed have won multiple, consecutive national Student Music and Blue Chip CD awards, including the sole winner of Best College Big Band. Jazz Times says, "The degree of hard work, patience, study, blood, sweat and tears necessary to produce a band of this quality is phenomenal."
Keith is a member of the International Association for Jazz Education (IAJE), the Music Educators National Convention (MENC), the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences, (NARAS), and the American Society for Composers and Publishers (ASCAP).

Reviews on From Here To The Street
"Well worth checking into, Javors satisfies an appetite for imagination and the musically punctuated with surprising twists and turns..."
Jazz Educators Journal
"The group covers a lot of modern jazz ground without looking back too much. The performances range from melancholy and contemplative to swinging and bluesy to exuberant and burning...This is a solid album from an educator who can do more than teach."
Jazz Times
"The quartet doesn't stray far from ghosts of the Motor City sound. At times progressive yet non-threatening, the Javors Quartet displays the ability to restrain and not bore. Javors knows what it takes to craft a listenable album...doesn't override with aimless strokes."
Bloomington Independent
"...A colorful studio session of straight-ahead jazz that leaps and dances with boldness and finesse...robust improvisations"
All About Jazz.com
"Nice band. Nice tunes. Nice blowing by all concerned."
