You Bring The Devil is sultry, sexy and naughty - the red-eyed soul of The Doe's is a psychedelic swirl of R&B and funk.
Bio / Background
The Jane Doe's are rock & ‘red-eyed soul' that puts you in the mood...a five-piece ensemble that embodies the essence of deep groove and intimacy.
As a music therapist in psychiatric hospitals and rehab centers, singer, writer & lyricist A.R. Tubbs uses music to communicate in new ways with people living in pain and at the very edges of the human experience. In early 2005, British film director John Maybury was looking for songs crafted with this sort of resonance, insight, and kaleidoscopic imagery to set the tone for his film, "The Jacket” (Warner Independent).
Legendary musician/producer Brian Eno, who composed the score for "The Jacket" & Maybury were so taken with the song "Quiet Inside", which features A.R. and producer Keith Gattis on acoustic guitar, that they wove the song through several scenes and the end credits of the film. “Quiet Inside” was recently named a Finalist for the 2007 INDEPENDENT MUSIC AWARDS.
↓ more ↓One of the first things to attract your ears and eyes at a Jane Doe's performance is the eclectic makeup of percussionist Brad Colton’s trap kit. Comprised of a collection of hand drums from around the world, Colton layers organic beats created mostly out of salad bowls, springs, and other everyday items. He is joined in holding down the groove by Ian Grom on drums. Having played together for years, the two perform with amazing synchronicity. Bassist Daniel Thomas anchors the low end on upright and electric bass with Rami Jaffee (Wallflowers, Foo Fighters) rounding out the texture on Rhodes.
The worldwide exposure of The Jane Doe’s in several Music Blogs, the LA TIMES, PREFIX MAGAZINE, MAX MAGAZINE (Germany) and on the "LONELYGIRL15" series has brought in legions of new fans from coast to coast, the UK and Germany. With The Jane Doe's on stage, A.R. & Co. take you on a journey deep into the soul's core with a presence reminiscent of Jeff Buckley and Jamiroquai.
The Jane Doe's first LP "You Bring the Devil" (produced by Kevin Szymanski & The Jane Doe’s) features 12 tracks, including "Junkie," a funkified ode to mainlining sexual energy, and "All," a bare-knuckled, bump and grind, introspective take on jealousy and rage. "You Bring the Devil" also offers up a brand new Jane Doe's version of "Quiet Inside," along with the movie version as the last track. "You Bring the Devil" is now available on JaneDoes.com, Myspace.com/thejanedoes, independent record stores, CDBABY and digital music outlets all over the web.
The Jane Doe’s are spending the winter/spring 2007 in the Burbank studios of producer/composer Mike Post working on new music while playing select shows & private events on the West Coast.
