A left-field all female acoustic band whose songs tell tales of modern life with wry, theatrical humor, powerful and moving lyrics and (most days) expert musical prowess.
Bio / Background
Invocal - Four Songs About Love, Madness and Glove Puppets (EP)
The long awaited 2007 EP release from Northampton's wayward ladies. "Four Songs About Love, Madness and Glove Puppets" sees the folky quartet in their usual quirky, genre-defying form. It includes the sublime and addictive lesbian love/lust song 'Ow', and 'Cheer Up Frowny Face'; the acclaimed tragi-comic mockery of those ignorant to the issues of mental illness.
“This cute band from Northampton are caustic, funny engaging and so damn harmonic they’re hard to put down.” CURVE MAGAZINE
“This all female quartet boast tight, original and highly accomplished musicianship... and even when they sing angsty love songs they’re lucid and quirky.” DIVA MAGAZINE
Invocal are an all female acoustic quartet that perform with cello, guitar, clarinet and four harmonious voices. Their unique sound has been described as having "dark gypsy folk tugging from one side and an an all out west end musical tugging from another".
↓ more ↓The songs tell tales of modern life with caustic and bawdy humour, powerful and moving lyrics and (most days) expert musical prowess.
The band have performed together for four years and have toured the UK and republic of Ireland. 2006 saw the release of their debut full length album, Uneven Keel . This received excellent reviews in the lesbian press and on the UK folk/acoustic scene, reviewers favouring their restless musical arrangements, heartfelt honesty, wicked wit and genuine originality.
To accompany the album's release, the band embarked upon their first major uk tour. This was quite a revelation as it proved that they were able to spend extended periods of time on the road together without actually killing each other. A happy discovery that saw several Northampton bookmakers laughing all the way to the bank.
In 2007 Invocal have continued travelling around performing, punching, kicking and biting each other, and performing some more. Highlights for the band this year so far have been performing in Marburg Germany, at London Pride, Brighton Pride, headlining Cambridge Ladyfest, and discovering a nest of baby monkeys under the floorboards of the *Invocal farmhouse.
Most importantly, the band have just completed their brand new EP, recorded at , Fitdog Studios Northamptonshire. Four Songs About Love, Madness and Glove Puppets can be bought RIGHT HERE, right now.
