Bio / Background
Ingrid D. Johnson is an emerging Winnipeg poet, writer, songwriter, director, and spoken word recording artist. Her first collection of poetry "Little Black Butterfly in Iridescent Sunlight," deals with the traumatic effects of childhood incest, issues with low self-esteem, dysfunctional relationships, lust, love, introspection, and spiritual transcendence.
Since the launch of the book, on July.13th 2005, it was number five on the bestseller’s list at McNally Robinson. She has received positive reviews from the Winnipeg Public Library’s September/ October newsletter, The Metro and The Lance community paper, and Uptown (local Arts paper). She has been showcased on Def Poetry Jam’s website (hosted by Verse Makers), appeared on FLAVA 107.9's Big Phat Morning show, interviewed on CKUW’s "Grammar Skool" and “Say it Sistah” radio show on 95.9 F.M., CBC’s Radio One "Up to Speed" show, CBC’s National radio show "Outfront", CBC local news, CBC News world, Shaw T.V.

Johnson prides herself on using her poetic talents to confront social issues, offer hope and inspire change. She is a powerful songwriter that has written several songs like "Tired", "Tired Part 2", "I Believed", "My Soul Won't Let You Go", and "Music" for local vocalist FLO. She has also collaborated with Flo on “Flo-Ing Energy”, come up with the story idea and some of the melody for Flo’s R&B song “You know/ I know”, and wrote the verses to "Move On", "Slow Jam", and "Turn the Tables".
