I am a percussive person, unable to sit still listening to ragas or polkas or tangoes (is that how you spell plural tango?), patting out beats on my knees. I've gone around the world to hear taiko, conga, tabla, and djembes. Anyway, your music takes all that I love about East Indian music, exotic sound, drum, and trance and puts it all together.

I teach art in a high school and use music to stimulate or aggravate students into creating things. When I brought in "Indus Red", it was the first time most of my students had ever heard anything like it. I love when some of them 'get it' and let it in and are changed by it.

Indus Red fuses the musical traditions of India with the west. The instruments on this recording are Harmonium, Guitar, Tabla, Flute, Banjo, Tanpura, Piano, and various drums.

Jim began his musical training on the drumset at the age of 11. After pursuing Jazz and Fusion music his world was turned upside down when he delved into Indian Classical Music and the art of Tabla. Since 1990 Jim has been consumed by this art form.

He has traveled to India several times to learn Tabla from Ustad Allah Rakka, and Vibhav Nageshkar. He is currently under the tutelage of Yogesh Samsi. He has studied stateside from Sukvinder Singh Namdhari, Samir Chatterji, Naren Desai, and a handful of other notable players. .

Jim has been recorded on albums by composer Kanniks Kannikeswaran for two all India releases, and the group he co-founded Mohenjo Daro ( Tandem Records ) . He has performed with the "Chapman stick" artist Greg Howard (Dave Matthews Collaborator )and Ashiq Khan where he performed in Rajasthan India. He has performed with the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra on several occassions, and at the Montreal Jazz-Festival with Mohenjo Daro.

Jim has also accompanied Budhadeav das Gupta, Laxmi Shankar, Kankana Banerjee, Anupama Sharma, Rajeshree Ghosh, Manu Srivastava and many other Indian classicists who travel through and near the mid-west.
