Bio / Background
Only rarely does a musician come along who has successfully combined elements of artistry, spirituality, and folk accessibility. In the words of M'tafiti Imara, "It Only Takes a Lifetime". M'tafiti(seeker of knowledge) has performed in Europe, Africa, Brazil, and through-out the U.S. and composed for a wide-range of musical medium - including dance, choral, and opera - as well as for traditional "jazz" settings. This debut recording brings together, and challenges the improvisational chops of some of the finest San Diego area musicians. Dr. Imara is also a professor of music at California State University San Marcos. He can also be heard on recordings by: Kamau Seitu, Terence Elliott, Teryl Saunders, and Don Moors.
