Bio / Background
"OverTIME," the debut offering from Idle Hands Banned, reveals influences by Steely Dan, Pink Floyd, The Allman Brothers, The Band and Neil Young, resulting in a sound like no other. A reviewer of their CD Release Concert at Little Rock in May called them "Neily Dan, while drummer Paul Edmonson comments "it sounds like us, really." Idle Hands has long been considered a "musician's band," with their gigs sought out by the area's rock performers. Jim Jolly, guitarist and principal songwriter, notes that "the music is eclectic, with jazz, blues, country and even surf elements." Adds keyboardist Rick Scott, "the CD refers to a variety of current events, ranging from terrorism to media-driven snipers to government intrusion in our lives to the internet. But to me it's not dark -- I hear it as upbeat, having a 'forging-ahead-in-the-face-of-weirdness quality' to it.
