Bio / Background
Ian McLagan's second solo album 'Bump In The Night' - 1981, was the Bump Band's first recording. Mac and Johnny Lee Schell ('Little Troublemaker' ), found the perfect drummer in Ricky Fataar, who had moved to Los Angeles from his native South Africa as a member of The Beach Boys. Mac, Johnny and Ricky then auditioned bass players until Ray Ohara came along and the Bump Band were complete. The sessions were recorded at famed Shangri La Studios on Zuma Beach, Malibu, California which had been The Band's studio and where Martin Scorsese filmed interviews for 'The Last Waltz'.
Ronnie Wood co-wrote and played bass and lead guitar on 'Litte Girl', Bobby Keys played tenor sax on ‘Not Running Away’, and Renee Geyer sang on ‘So Lucky’ and consequently began recording her album titled, 'So Lucky' at Shangri-La with the Bump Band.
↓ more ↓During the sessions for ‘Bump In The Night’ Bonnie Raitt came to check out the studio, liked what she heard and made plans to record her next album, 'Green Light' with the band too. She liked the band so much they subsequently toured with her for four years as 'Bonnie Raitt & the Bump Band'
As the three sessions were winding down in 1981, Mac was asked to tour with the Rolling Stones again, and spent a whole night finishing off vocals and keyboards on all three albums.
This is Mac's most rocking album, re-mastered from the original 1/4 inch master tapes and with artwork never used in the vinyl edition. He plays many of these songs live with his current Bump Band from Texas, 'Scrappy' Jud Newcomb - guitar/vocals, Mark Andes - bass/vocals , & Don Harvey - drums.
Check out Renee Geyer's 'So Lucky', Bonnie's 'Green Light' and 'Bump In The Night', the Daddy of them all!

Several of these songs from Ian McLagan's second solo effort remind of the Rolling Stones. All the tracks and solid and it's easy to see why Bonnie Raitt started working with the Bump Band. Bluesy rock music with good lyrics. Stones fans should check it out along with Bonnie Raitt fans who enjoyed "Green Light." Best tracks include "If It's Lovin' You Want," "Casualty" and "Boy's Gonna Get It."
