Bio / Background
This is the debut CD from singer/songwriter, producer, and multi-instrumentalist, Ian Decker. Though not new to the music scene, he has been performing professionally for over 15 years and has written, recorded, and produced hundreds of songs for himself and others, but this is his first commercial CD, released on his own label, Tri-Diamond Records. Being an ASCAP member and having his own publishing company, KyThom Publishing, Ian has started venturing out into the music business more and more and it has paid off with his newest release!
Started back in the fall of 2000, Ian wrote the song Mother's Love, which became the beginning of the whole album. It wouldn't be long before Falling, Stand Back, and What If were written and added to a growing list of songs to pick from for what was beginning to evolve into a project. 2 years went by with several re-writes, edits, writer's block, just plain confusion and not knowing what to do at times. Then came Berklee School of Music.
↓ more ↓Although Ian had studied production and music for 4 years at Ohio University and had attended the Recording Workshop in Chillicothe, OH with top honors, he still needed some feedback and some insight about the business and arrangements he had put together.
So by chance, Berklee had just started to have online classes. Although a bit skeptical he tried the Production Workshop with record producer Mitch Benoff (Great professor, mentor, and friend). And that is when it all clicked. Everything was validated and critiqued. It was proven not once, but twice by a group of professionals that the music was just not quite there.... Ok, where does one go from there when he thought he was ready to release? Back to the studio and draw from deep within. He didn't need the perfect timed pop song, or the ultra chorused and re-chorused metal bridge, or even the perfect mix of songs, what he needed was the passion back. After spending so many years and sleepless nights trying to get everything right, he forgot the passion that started it all!
So he tweaked a few songs (even had Jay Lillagore of Nashville add drums on a few tracks) and checked levels and decided, "What's done is done, it feels good!" See, no one in the business ever told him when an album would be done, they just said, " You'll know!" and know he did. That is the cool thing about it all.... he sent demo's back out to be listened to and received great response.
That brings us here, where you are right now, checking the music out and finding out who he is! There are thousands of Indie artists out there, if you are looking for a good bet for now and the years to come, put him on your play list and stop by and introduce yourself at his website, www.iandecker.com . Sign his guest book, check out his bulletin boards, there is plenty of merchandise to choose from, and if you have any kind of feedback on his music, good or bad.... send him an e-mail!
