Hooky pop songs with a pet rock feel. Also a couple of bleeding heart ballads: one with a really famous guy playing on it, and the other with a really old cello on it.
Bio / Background
What I said...
I was born in Cincinnati, OH 1963, although I don't remember that...
Moved to Naples, FL in 1973, by parents who were looking for sinus relief.
Played in a few bands in and out of high school, most fondly remember after high school, Youth In Asia (say it fast, get it?), a band with a punky new/wavy kind of sound...that's when I got my first taste of how good it felt to front a band, even if it was in two-toned hair and leather pants! And I'll bet you didn't know that "band fronting" actually had a taste.
Worked at record/music stores out of high school, then for a pool service company (I was the first female supervisor they ever had, I am woman, hear me snore)! I think that was when I first started wearing a sports bra, too...
Met Stephanie Callahan in 1989 at a softball tournament (uh, oh, you know what that must mean...) and formed Halcyon. (out of Play-Doh at first, but it didn't stand up well to the FL heat).
↓ more ↓Moved to Tampa in 1990 to have access to a more metropolitan area for the music. (Yeah, it was just for the music).
Worked steady and partied hard for a large, devoted following that continues to this day. The following, and the partying.
Being in Halcyon has enabled me to travel the entire country many times over, including Alaska, and even did some extremely well received gigs in England. (It was nice to meet a real queen!) I've done festivals, cruises, TV, radio, office parties and even horse tracks! After 18 years, I seen and done an awful lot. Someday, I hope to tell Oprah all about it.
Hobbies and things I like: cooking/good food/cool restaurants/wine/craft beer/do I smell a pattern here?/water/boating/floating/beaching/weather/hanging in the back yard with something on the grill/yep, def. a pattern/art/ other people's music/
What somebody else said...with interjections from me (in parenthesis) (isn't that cool? In parenthesis is in parenthesis!)...
Deb Hunseder is a longtime Tampa Bay area favorite. (Favorite what)? She is highly popular as of the duo Halcyon with singing partner Stephanie Callahan, a collaboration which evolved from a chance meeting in 1989. (Chance meeting, is that what they call it these days)? They have played a wide array of shows– music festivals, benefits, bars, clubs, and even travel in Europe and Alaska, and developed a unique and fiercely loyal cadre (ooh, good word!) of fans who have now spilled over into second and third generations of listeners. (Oh my God, are you kidding me?!)
"In our 25 years of business here, they are by far our most consistent draw," says Tom White, owner of Skipper’s Smokehouse in Tampa. "You can be sure that any night Halcyon plays here we’ve got a good 400 to 500 people." (400-500 good n plenty drunk people)
Deb is now branching out as a solo artist, (I'm a tree, I'm a tree!) bringing along her trademark energy, showmanship, and irrepressible sense of humor. No one feels cheated at a Deb Hunseder show. (Unlesss I steal their wallet) Her exuberance on stage (and sometimes off stage) involves the audience in a very direct and personal way. (I'm also a professional breath checker) Her voice is strong, clear, and true, whether on a pull-out-all-the-stops rocker or on an intimate slow-burn ballad. (If I could only convey to you how painful it is when all of the stops get pulled out...) (...and a fast-burn ballad usually hurts much less)
.
While Deb, as part of Halcyon, has earned numerous awards and critical acclaim, she is real, honest, and down to earth. (If I wasn't, I'd be a fake, dishonest alien) Professionalism and a dedication always to give her best shines through on Deb’s first solo CD release, titled "Surface". Every song is solid and well-crafted, confirming her well-earned credentials as a songwriter. Coupled with her incredible vocal abilities, this CD is the perfect culmination of her musical journey so far. (OK, ya got me there, I give).

Seen Deb live a couple times in Naples FL.... Awesome! A 'don't miss' show! This lady's got heart and soul and pours it out real for you! This album just brings it on home and is a great example of what she does best.... raw and edgy... J. LaRose
