Spastic post-punk indie rock
Editorial review
A sizeable blend of squeaky, pipe-cleaner vocals with a large, guitar-fronted assault makes this Calgary quartet a force to be reckoned with. From the opening, "Vive Death!," it's quite obvious that lead singer Andrew Wedderburn has a more punk-oriented delivery and pitch. A large portion of the time, this doesn't really become a factor given the fine musicianship composing a very adventurous album. The group sounds as if they're trying hard to be unpolished and pleasantly jagged, but numbers like "Let's Play in Traffic" and "The Last Thing" ooze the polished factor they're perhaps trying to elude. The punky "Five By Five" is the highlight of the record, but there is a lot of quality to pick from. ~ Jason MacNeil, All Music Guide
Bio / Background
Hot Little Rocket are from Calgary, Alberta. Too fast to stare at their feet and too catchy for rock and roll fashion, these are songs to shout down buses by, songs to rail against your day-job to, or songs for simply strapping on the headphones and embracing the dynamics.
Hot Little Rocket embrace both melody and abrasion, taking in english guitar noise and american post-punk. The lyrics run on wit, never falling back on irony and nevertoo smart for their own good.
