Powerful and fluid delivery, clever lyrics and slick wordplay, Mid-West/Southern twang.
Bio / Background
Hot Charlie’s versatility and uniqueness are reflected by the diverse cultural puzzle that makes him. A black father and a white mother; roots in the South and the Midwest, and a childhood surrounded by drugs, alcohol, poverty, and violence are the pieces to that puzzle. He likes to describe himself as “the offspring of abuse and neglect”.
A powerful, yet fluid delivery is complimented by clever lyrics and slick wordplay. Hot Charlie gained notoriety in the Midwest through underground albums and collaborations. At the same time, he was also gaining notoriety as a prominent street figure in the dope game. He teamed up with T-Ball, a Texas artist, for the “Arson” album, a local underground classic. A move to Los Angeles and a chance meeting with a New York talent agent presented an opportunity to take his career to the next level, as major labels began to take notice.
However, this promising future was cut short in 2001 when his past caught up with him.
↓ more ↓He was arrested by the United States Marshall’s and charged with “Conspiracy to Distribute Cocaine Base”. He was convicted and sentenced to serve 170 months in federal prison.
Before his arrest, he recorded numerous verses, demos, and songs; some of which he created in the dark days prior to his arrest, when he knew he would be gone. Now, after nearly 6 years, his voice will be heard again.
