Bio / Background

Holly Reed's finger style guitar, rich vocals, and catchy melodies create a captivating new sound. This new CD, "The Journey," was written using the travel journals of Benjamin J. Gunn, 1865-1939.

The title track takes you back to 1886 when Ben Gunn, at age 21, decided to leave his home in Arcadia, Kansas, and travel across the country to see the Pacific Ocean. His first impressions of Los Angeles are revealed in "The Mighty Ocean." On that first journey away from home, Ben Gunn fell in love with traveling, and he eventually visited every county in every state in the U.S.!

When Ben Gunn returned home to Kansas from his journey to the Pacific, he planned yet another trip down south to Mississippi. The song, "Storm" reflects his reaction to racial strife in the deep South in the late 1800s. While traveling through the South, he met his future wife, Louise, and wrote a poem called "Love." Ben Gunn and his bride lived in Arcadia, Kansas, and ran the local newspaper for many years.
