"Floats Nicely between Icy IDM and Fractured Bedroom Pop" -The Onion NY
Bio / Background
"A psychedelic fantasy land created with delicate vocals, light piano, a harshly fuzzed out drum machine and mischievous electronic sounds." -CMJ
"Healamonster & Tarsier is a local duo whose new album floats nicely between icy IDM and fractured bedroom pop." -The Onion
Healamonster & Tarsier are a Brooklyn-based, cinematic-electronic duo (Burgess Tomlinson and Rona Rapadas). Their album 00:00:01 (released July 2002, 17-Ft. Jellyfish Records) is an aural snapshot of a dream, combining erratic, filtered beats, with everything from alien homeless man samples, to North American frogs, cinematic synth lines, melancholic tubas, Manhattan subway trains, eastern ceetaurs, and rapturous vocals.

Healamonster & Tarsier have released a number of songs on independent record compilations from San Francisco and New York, including the Abstract Trip/Hop-focused "Live At The Complex" Compilations I, II & III (Entartete Kunst Records), "All That Glitters Isn't Platinum" Volume 1 (Amoeba/Hip Hop Slam), "Are Friends Electric" (Seizmic Records NY), "Bread & Roses" (Entartete Kunst), and most recently, "Amoeba Music Compilation Volume IV" (Amoeba/Hip Hop Slam) featuring over 30 independent artists. H&T's songs have had radio exposure on Groovetech London, Indymedia.org, Spinner, Radiovista and college/community radio stations like WFMU, KUSF, KFJC, & WNTI.
Healamonster's first solo album, "Underwater Hunter" sold over 500 copies from indie-retail giant, Amoeba Records in San Francisco and was a weekly best seller there and at Mondo Kim's New York. The rest of this CD (now out-of-print) was sold abundantly at other independent record stores and at live shows. Tarsier came on board in 2000 and together they produced, recorded and self-released their debut album, 00:00:01(One Second), designed by New York flash artist, Kinya Hanada (a.k.a. Mumbleboy). The Onion New York wrote: "00:00:01 floats nicely between icy IDM and fractured bedroom pop." CMJ described it as "a psychedelic fantasy land created with delicate vocals, light piano, a harshly-fuzzed out drum machine and mischievous electronic sounds."
Their powerful live show offers cinematic pleasure for the senses as they mold elements of sound into bits of electronic bliss and sonic shrapnel. As FlyerMagazine NYC stated, "the REAL excitement is the live performance by abstract leftfield monsters, Healamonster & Tarsier!" They have performed in New York at CMJ's Music Marathon 2002, Luxx, Mercury Lounge, Open Air Bar, CMJ's New Artist Performance Series at Sin-e, Baktun, The Cooler, Meow Mix, Baby Jupiter, Elan (Dumbo), and opened for The Sneaker Pimps at Brooklyn's Southpaw. They have also performed in San Francisco at Edinburgh Castle, Pubis Noir, North Beach's Greatwater and Café du Nord. The duo is currently playing shows in support of the album which is available in New York (Mondo Kim's, Other Music, Kim's Mediapolis, Joe's Music, & Rainbow Music), Brooklyn (Earwax Records, Music Matters, Holy Cow), San Francisco (Amoeba Music), Berkeley (Amoeba Berkeley), Los Angeles (Amoeba Hollywood), and online at CD Baby.
