Bio / Background
For the last 6 years, Hired Geeks have been a staple in the midwest ska and jazz rock scenes, wowing audiences with their offbeat tempos, key changes, and unorthodox yet catchy songwriting. They have toured extensively throughout the midwest and into the east coast, repeatedly sharing the stage with artists such as Tub Ring and Dog Fashion Disco, and ska legends The Toasters, Mustard Plug, and The Skatalites. Hired Geeks played in the first and second "Ska Is Dead" tours (with Catch 22, Mustard Plug, Big D & the Kids Table, The Planet Smashers, Voodoo Glow Skulls, Streetlight Manifesto, and MU330), and performed at the annual ska fest "Skappleton" for the last 5 years. The Geeks teamed up with former Toasters and Pilfers front man Coolie Ranx for a soon to be released single entitled "Schwipe." Rob Kleiner of Tub Ring will be producing the Geeks upcoming full length album, being recorded in Chicago and due out late 2007.

Hired Geeks formed in the fall of 2000 from the likes of music majors, psychologists, IT technicians, and philosophers. They have perfected an intense original sound and a kaleidoscopic live act showcasing the mastery of their irregular instruments: 6-string slap and tap bass, french horn, Superbone (valve/slide combo trombone), a tenacious double bass drum and the clock and trigger guitar. The Geeks intricately blend touches of jazz, metal, progressive, funk, new wave and reggae, as well as applying classical-modern musical ideas such as polytonalism and polyrhythmics to rock and ska. This combination of unconventional musical elements characterizes the raw, innovative sound of the Hired Geeks and has allowed them to break into multiple genres.
